Old Pete’s had a rough couple of days.Started getting sick Wed. night and by Friday I was having my semi-annual bout with bronchitis and asthma.I tried to get somebody to work for me Saturday since I was extremely weak and so short of breath I felt like a fish gasping for air.I really didn’t think I’d make it.
I did, finally, and shivering with chills all the way,DW rushed me to the ER at Rockford Memorial Hospital. The nurse who took my information asked who they were to bill the services to.I told her I’m a 60 year old white man with a job without benefits other than a paycheck.I don’t get free health care and can’t afford $1,000/mo. for individual insurance. So I told her to send the bill to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave,D.C., c/o B.Obama.He fixes everything.
Turned out it was bronchial asthma and a bad case of pnuemonia.I had worked the day with a temp near 103.It took the better part of Sunday to get two of the meds the hospital gave me changed to generics,as what they prescribed totalled almost $350.00 retail.I spent some time at the Walmart pharmacy talking to a nice old lady who’d been waiting over an hour for a prescription she was told would take 15 minutes.I joked with her that Obamacare would make everything better;she just rolled her eyes and smiled. She gets it.I’m taking my first day off in 15 months,so I’ll do the Grudge shortly.Have a beautiful day, all.

Prayers for you, Pete.
And see if you can find some essential oil of eucalyptus. Health food stores usually have it. If it doesn’t have the Latin name on the label (which should say Eucalyptus, then something else like globulus, radiata, smithii, citriodora), don’t buy it.
“Smells like” substances have no therapeutic benefit and may even be harmful. Fake aromas (called “fragrance” on ingredient labels) are often made from hydrocarbons; they may smell better than car exhaust, but your body won’t know the difference.
Eucalyptus smithii is the mildest and safest for children and elderly; it’s the one I use. E. citriodora has a lemony aroma, if you don’t care so much about strength, but prefer lemon to the smell of eucalyptus.
Before you go to bed, put a cereal bowl about half full of water next to the head of your bed or, if you have a forced air anything (fan, heater, filter, humidifier), you can put it by that to blow the fumes around the room. Drip 4 drops only of the euc oil on to the water. It’s potent, four drops is plenty for the night.
Studies show eucalyptus oil kills up to 80% of airborne germs. It also kills germs in your lungs, acts as a mild analgesic, plus helps to open up those bronchial passages so you can breathe. If you do this, you’ll sleep better and get well faster.
If you’re allergic to eucalyptus, you can substitute tea tree oil, which is inexpensive and also commonly available. If you’re really having trouble breathing, you can dab tea tree oil neat right under your nostrils. I had a gf whose child had frequent bronchitis; she said this helped her a lot.
If you don’t mind the medicinal odors, you can combine the tea tree on your upper lip with eucalyptus in the bowl. It’s kinda stinky, but works a treat, and when you learn to connect the smells with the good breathing, you’ll find you enjoy the smells. At least, I did.
NOTE: Do NOT put most essential oils undiluted on your skin. Some are potent enough to raise a blister. Tea tree and lavender are two that are skin safe, but most are not.
BTW, did you know the active ingredients in Vick’s VapoRub is essential oils? Unfortunately, they’re in a petroleum base, so not safe for those of us who are hypersensitive to hydrocarbons.

Chrissy – what happens if you are sensitive to hydrocarbons? I use Vicks for my daughter – no rashes or anything because of it. Just wondering what the effects are for those with sensitivities.

Hypersensitivities are idiosyncratic. Unlike toxins and germs, which generally cause a predictable array of symptoms in most people, hypersensitivities cause whatever they cause.
Usually, a reaction occurs where the substance touches the body most directly. But once the substance is in the blood stream, it can go anywhere and cause inflammation in any muscle, joint, or organ. With inflammation comes pain and disruption of the area’s function.
For example, mold, dust, pollen and pet dander are usually breathed in and most commonly cause sinus inflammation and lung problems, but some molds cause me to suddenly feel very angry, dust sets off a migraine in a friend of mine, and dog dander caused my toddler to fall to the floor in a heap and wail like a fire engine.
Vicks is strong stuff. I’m sure you’d notice if your dd had a new symptom only after you put it on her. And the symptom wouldn’t necessarily be from the petrolatum. If you suspect an allergy, you have to break the substance into its components to test them individually, which can be tricky for a novice. If anyone here needs help testing for allergies, email me at Chrissy@ChrissyOriginals.com.
I believe the base in Vicks is basically the same stuff as Vaseline. Most of the other ingredients in Vicks are essential oils you can purchase locally or on-line. I really like http://www.aromathyme.com.
BTW, the “proper” term for all this is “hypersensitivity.” The medical community has such a narrow definition of “allergy” (an IgE mediated immune response) that it doesn’t apply to many situations that us dumb bunnies who didn’t go to medical school would call “allergy.”

Hmmmm…..my daughter is a toddler, but she also tends to be angrier than your average bear. Thanks for the info, might need to look into this further. I want to make sure her meltdowns are not preventable – I’ve been looking into food allergies/sensitivities – it’s all so overwhelming though!

Politico claims she plays a victim.Play, hell!I’ve never seen anyone attacked as incessantly as she and her family have been for the last few years. And it won’t stop as long as they fear her. She’s not the go along to get along type and she fights back.Thats why she has such a loyal following.
My only fear is the press is so powerful and there are so many who believe the SRMs lies that Jugears just could win in 2012 which would doom the country.I really don’t know if we could survive.

Pete, I can’t believe you went to all that trouble eith the Grudge Report when you are so ill. Thank you, friend. I have had pneumonia twice and I know it really takes it out of you. I hope you have the bacterial kind instead of the viral because the antibiotics usually help you feel better faster if it is bacterial. I loved Chrissy’s suggestions for the eucalyptus oil! I also found this helpful: Take a bath towel or very large face towel and get it wet in very hot water. Wring it out very well and then lie back and relax with the towel on your chest. That hot, moist heat helps to break up the gunk in your lungs, according to the pulmonary doctor who treated me. Even if he was crazy, it felt good!
I hope you feel better soon, and thanks again for all the great links.
