Queen Anne, Queen Anne, has washed her lace
(She chose a summer’s day)
And hung it in a grassy place
To whiten, if it may.
Queen Anne, Queen Anne, has left it there,
And slept the dewy night;
Then waked, to find the sunshine fair,
And all the meadows white.
Queen Anne, Queen Anne, is dead and gone
(She died a summer’s day),
But left her lace to whiten in
Each weed-entangled way!

Mama Buzz snapped and emailed this to me while she was out with the kids yesterday. The text said, “PINK Queen Anne’s Lace?”
I was curious and found the COOLEST web page about Queen Anne’s Lace (Daucus carota), aka, Wild Carrot, Bird’s Nest Weed.
It seems the young blooms are pink. I never noticed that. As they mature, they turn white, with a little purple one right in the middle!
The micro-photography at this site is splendid. I highly recommend a visit.

I always knew about the spot in the middle, but I confess that I have never noticed the pink, and it has been growing outside my kitchen door for decades. Live and learn!

I have never noticed any pink on Queen Anne’s Lace. I love this plant from a distance, but have had way too many battles with it in my garden. In my first home, I would literally pull out wheelbarrows full. It was taking over everywhere.
But speaking of doing battle. QAL was everywhere at Gettysburg, proving to me that God gave us flowers to help us heal. I took a sprig and pressed it, and I still have it.
Here is a plant that I absolutely love:

The fairy rose is literally carefree. It looks beautiful in a little vase with some baby’s breath, or even a bit of Queen Anne’s lace. It does not get bugs or disease like other roses and makes a beautiful shrub after a couple of years. Mine are blooming now. I have them around the circle in my driveway.
And speaking of pink roses, did you know they actually have an energy? My friend (who lives a couple of blocks from Obama) is a Shaman and she says that pink roses vibrate at a higher energy level than people even do. She said that if there is unhappiness in your house, you should place pink roses in all the rooms and it will emit positive vibes.
Try it and let me know if you notice any difference-though I think we are all pretty much walking around with big smiles right now after the latest victory in the battle to take back our country.

Wow … that is an impressive rose! Makes me wish (again) that I could still garden. I’d be looking up where to buy some!

I could use some positive vibes right about now. Buzz is in the middle of a melt down. I am taking the cowardly grandma route … shut myself in my office to visit my buds here until his Mama sorts out his attitude.

Maybe you need to put some pink roses in the room with you and little Buzz. lol

I suppose the pink “silk” roses on my bedroom door don’t count huh. 🙂

Chrissy, I really don’t think that is Queen Anne’s Lace in the photo now that I look more closely. I don’t see the foliage anywhere, but I do see something peeking out near the blossom that reminds me of the verbena foliage. Maybe it is some form of yarrow, which is usually yellow, but the flower reminds me of it a bit. I don’t really know.

I was thinking the same thing. The foilage does not look like Queen Anne’s Lace which looks feathery, just like a carrot top.
Verbenas come in many colors and it could possibly be lantana.

Thanks. It definitely looks more like this than QAL! I’ll tell Mama Buzz. She and I love learning the names of things! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verbena

Their are lots of verbenas and I love them all. They are so carefree and bloom prolifically. The one at the top of that link is my absolute favorite! It gets very tall and looks wonderful in arrangements, again with those pink fairy roses. I first found that plant at a golf course. I was suppose to be hitting the ball but I kept checking out the plants, driving my DH nuts. He will never get it that I play golf because I love a beautiful walk in the park. I can hit the ball just fine, but I could care less about the score.
Anyway, this verbena was growing by the tee, and was going to seed, so I collected some seeds and put them in my yard and had them reseeding prolifically in my old house. I need to find some again!
Love this plant! Thanks for finding that link.
