Can you imagine what Sharpton would be screaming if this was happening in a republican city? This is Obama’s hometown and no one is saying a word?
        Again-
If this was happening in the town of a Republican President, can you imagine the way this would become a campaign slogan?
“(republican) did nothing to improve save lives in his home town, why should we trust him to help American?”

I was about to say that. My sil had to suffer through his drill instructor stint under the obamadministration.

He was forbidden to call his wannabesoldiers by their rank, because they were all Privates and it might make some of them feel bad to be referred to by a possibly sexually-charged term.

And we know from how Democrats call us Teabaggers all the time how very SENSITIVE they are about not using labels that might possibly have a sexually-charged and demeaning interpretation.

It makes me feel ever so much safer knowing that there are young men now wearing the uniform and carrying loaded rifles who might have gotten the vapors and been forced to drop out of boot camp because a Drill Instructor called them Privates.

When I had two kids in diapers and it was hotter than hades, I got really sick for a week or so and didn’t get around to rinsing out the poopy diapers that certain parties had put into the diaper pail with the poo still in them. There were maggots crawling around in there. I’d rather clean that diaper pail again than watch all the stuff Pete watches so we don’t have to. Thank you, Pete.

I’ve heard that fatherlessness is THE most accurate predictor of criminal behavior. Not that some single moms don’t manage to turn out good kids, just that for most of them, the odds are stacked too much against them.

I knew a single mom whose teen son was way more than she could handle. No ghetto. No black skin. Just a boy with a bad attitude who was a lot bigger and stronger than his mom. The law wouldn’t allow her to kick him out, because he was underage. She’d tried disciplining him, but he had responded so violently that she stopped. She was just that afraid of him.

I babysat once for a single mom with a teen son. He was her youngest. I asked why she needed a sitter for a kid who was, after all, maybe two years younger than me and fully capable of taking care of himself and calling 911 if necessary. She said, “You’re not here to protect him. You’re here to protect my house from him.”

        • Y’all are so right. We know at least 4 or 5 single/divorced moms raising teen boys, and it seems most impossible when it gets to the point where the gals are afraid of the boys. At some point, there’s no influence any more, and no respect, and no one else to demand it of them. And then there’s the psychology with the boys, themselves. Good book called “Faith of the Fatherless” by Paul Vitz, where he documents how notoriously faithless boys become without a dad to lead them. God bless those boys who buck the trend – and those moms who succeed in it!

            • I remember a mom who used to comment at Honey Trail telling us about how, after her good-for-nothing cheating husband abandoned her and their son, a group of men from her church and community stepped in to mentor her son and act as father figures to him. That’s exactly how churches and communities are supposed to work. We don’t need government programs for this. What we need government to do is to repeal and revoke policies and programs that discourage marriage and family formation, and reward and encourage illegitimacy, family dissolution, and irresponsible fatherhood.

Right now my grandmother is in a nursing home because she has too many health issues to stay at home. Worst of them all is that her memory is gone, so she has no idea who her family is, but she tells me all the time, she just wants her family. She tells me she loves me but does not even know my name. It breaks my heart to think that when her time comes, she might be alone. No one should have to live like this. No one should have to die like this.
We are living too short, and dying too long.

Everybody here knows my grandma was my rock when I was growing up.Grandpa passed in 1972,and by then they’d sold the livestock since I was married and gone and he’d gotten too old to do it himself.Grandma carried on by herself for some years, but she suffered a series of strokes in the 90’s that slowly took her mind.My aunt had moved in to take care of her but she finally became too much to handle.Aunt Gloria had to put deadbolt locks from the inside of her house, because granny would wander out the door in her nightgown in the middle of the night. The police picked her up walking down the street and she wouldn’t tell them where she lived.Everybody said her mind was completely gone.
I took her to lunch one day,and as we were driving she looked at me in a moment of clarity and said:’it’s terrible when you have to bury your child.’
My mom and oldest uncle were already gone, and I knew then she was not quite as bad as she let on.After my aunt put her in a nursing home, she deteriorated fast.I went to see her and talked to her for a long time, not knowing if she even heard me.I thanked her for always being there, always caring, always seeing what was right and what was wrong and put God and family before myself.
Then I took that frail, bony hand that had made so many pies, scrubbed behind my ears, nursed so many sick animals back to health, helped me with my homework and steered me back on the right path when I drifted off course in my hand and gave it a squeeze.Somehow I knew it was the last time I would see her.She looked in my eyes and somehow seemed to say,it was all right. Her job was done and she was going to be next to the only man she’d ever slept with.It was up to me to take the life lessons I learned from her and pass them on to my children and grandchildren.
Granny passed away two days later at age 84.There is scarcely a day that goes by when I don’t think of her.As it is with life,I’ve known great joy and a good deal of sorrow and pain.Death holds no terror for me,because I know at the other end of this thing called life,I did the best I could. And that’s all she ever asked of me.

It was not easy being the child of teen parents, who never really had the time for us. But the silver lining was lots of grandparents and great grandparents.
I only have one left, but how many people my age can say that!
I feel lucky to have her, even though she is not really here for the most part.
