Haha! Lexicon is a very arbitrary god, who seems to be very easily offended. I’ve had many games where I lost in a landslide to an opponent who was not really a better player than I am, because I had done something to anger Lexicon. (I have no idea what it was, or I’d stop doing it!)

I’m famous! My mother would not have allowed that word in the very, very strict rules of her version of Scrabble. She would have called it something from the comic books, or something like that. We all just humor her….

In online Scrabble, unlike Scrabble played on a physical board with physical tiles, it’s impossible to make a word that does not appear in the Scrabble dictionary. If you attempt to make an illegitimate word, the board rejects it. So whenever we are able to play a word successfully, no matter how outrageous it may appear, we know that it really does appear in the Scrabble dictionary!

Those 2 boards contain multiple words that I didn’t know were words.

I think the highlight of my Scrabble games was getting 31 points for the word “bus” 🙂 …
It’s a 5 point word, but the ‘b’ was on triple word score, and the ‘s’ was on the end of my opponent’s existing 15 point word, so I got (5 x 3) + (15 + 1) = 31

Online SCRABBLE is a good way to learn new words, cuz your turns can be as long as you want and we allow any resources you care to use. The program (Facebook SCRABBLE) doesn’t permit any illegal words, so there’s no arguments.
And there are a number of online helpers. The game itself has an “Is this a word?” thingie, all the two letter words and a chat feature, in the column beside the board, so we can rag on each other or complain about what vile thing Lexicon has done lately.
I also use @ http://wordhints.com/ a lot. I do try to find words myself, but then I put my tiles in the box and let it list the possibles. I’ve noticed it misses some, like QI for some reason, which is probably every SCRABBLE players favorite word ever, so that’s weird. Oddly, it has no way to contact the webmaster about said weirdnesses.
It’s got a neat feature though that allows you to click on any word it pops for your tiles which takes you immediately to a list of other words that contain that word and from there to a pronunciation and definition page. If a word intrigues me, sometimes I will follow up by searching for a photo, esp if it’s an animal or plant. I like to see those.
It’s really fun. I’ve got 2 games going at all times with Bob and 2 more with Mama Buzz.

In something totally unrelated, we had an unusually large number of garden visitors yesterday. We had been averaging about 400 or so daily, but yesterday we had more than a thousand!
