DW is coming home today.I have to start making the bed again and I put off getting groceries for two days so I gotta do it soon.She left me a list,which is helpful.The difference when I shop alone and when we go together is that like a lot of women,a lot of things end up in the cart that weren’t on the list.Before I met her,I asked DD to help me with my Christmas shopping.We went to the mall,I gave her my list and my card and settled in to wait.Two hours later,she showed up with two little packages.
‘That’s all you bought?’
‘Dad,that’s the difference between men and women–women shop,men buy.’
It’s true.We men go to a store,we know what we want,we buy it and we’re gone.Maybe that’s why lionesses do all the hunting.They have the patience we lack.

When our troops are deployed to areas with no plumbing, they have to use green WAG bags for their poop. I made a miniature for one of my kids about her deployment, took a teensy zippy bag and filled it with dark green paint, let it dry then tucked it into a half-hidden corner of the miniature. She caught sight of it, rolled her eyes and grimaced, “Oh MOOOOOOOOOOOM. THat is so gross!!!!!!!!!!” Hee hee

I thought the difference was from our hunting vs. gathering roles.
Men went hunting, found prey, followed it until they could kill it, drag it home and take a nap.
Women went gathering, looking for fruits and veggies, roots and fungi, nuts and berries. Our ancestresses had to look on, under, and around every possible bush and tree; we therefore feel compelled to examine every rack and counter display. Our ancestresses came home with what was ripe and a head full of knowledge about where other stuff was ripening. We come home with what’s on sale or urgently needed, and a head full of knowledge about where stuff might go on sale or can be had when we have money for it.
I believe this is also why men have a superior sense of direction, but can’t remember where the sugar is that’s been in the same spot on the same shelf in the same cupboard for more than a decade.

That is so true, and so funny. I have kept the steak knives in the same spot for 8 years, and yet everytime DH needs one, he asks where the steak knives are. And don’t get me started on the fact that on those rare occasions when he puts a few dishes away, he cannot seem to remember to put the knives in the knife drawer, not the spoon drawer.

Nah. It’s just the way their brains are wired. My dh can’t understand why I do not know at all times where NORTH is. He stopped ragging on me when I learned this factoid about hunting/gathering and used it to rag back about where the (FILL IN ANY HOUSEHOLD OBJECT) is.
