I waited a little longer to post today because of the fluidity of the terror situation.
There have been conflicting reports that they have a suspect in custody,now word is ,even though they searched his apartment,that he’s a witness.
One thing is certain–this was no amateur job.The bombs were made with presure cookers filled with ball bearings and nails,intended to inflict the maximum amount of damage.I’m posting a few items germaine to the attacks,but I have more things a little less depressing.
THIS LITTLE BOY IS MARTIN RICHARD.HE WAS WAITING TO HUG HIS DAD AT THE FINISH LINE.HE NEVER GOT THE CHANCE.HIS MOM UNDERWENT BRAIN SURGERY AND IS IN CRITICAL CONDITION,AND HIS 6 YEAR OLD SISTER LOST A LEG.PLEASE JOIN ME IN OFFERING UP A SPECIAL PRAYER FOR THIS FAMILY.
THE BENGHAZI MURDERERS ARE SIPPING COFFEE AND CHAIN-SMOKING CIGARETTES IN AN OPEN AIR CAFE.THE BUTCHER FROM FORT BLISS IS STILL COLLECTING A GOVERNMENT CHECK.

I have no love for Bill O’Reilly, but I have to agree with him on this one. Misusing the word “tragedy” to denote anything unfortunate that occurs is one of my linguistic pet peeves. As every good English major knows, a tragedy is a work of literature that ends with the protagonist’s downfall. Thus, a natural disaster — earthquake, flood, fire, etc. — is not a tragedy. It is a calamity, a catastrophe, or a cataclysm, but it’s not a tragedy. Similarly, a terrorist attack, mass murder, or other act of violence or brutality is not a tragedy. It’s an atrocity, an enormity, an outrage, or an obscenity, but it’s not a tragedy. Every time I hear a politician or newscaster or commentator misuse the word “tragedy” it’s like fingernails on a blackboard to me.

My kids give me grief over my incessant harping on abuse of the English language. They say all languages evolve and you can’t prevent it, so you might as well stop fighting a losing battle. I say someone has to stand athwart the degradation of the language, shouting “Stop!” They roll their eyes and wonder why their mother has to be so weird…

I wonder what I would do. If I am angry I am strong, but if I am afraid I am almost paralyzed. I just don’t know…I pray every night for the strength to rise to whatever occasion the next day brings, but I don’t think I have ever imagined being called to act in anything like this horror.

I agree, Ting. I don’t think anyone can predict how he/she would react in a situation he/she has never been in. We can only hope and pray that if the situation arises, we’ll respond the correct way.
I am probably one of the biggest cowards who ever lived. And yet I hear stories of extraordinary heroism involving ordinary, unremarkable people just like me who never thought they could do what they did when they suddenly found themselves in a crisis situation. People ask them afterward how they found the strength and courage to do whatever it was they did, and they seem genuinely baffled, as if even they don’t know how it happened. They say things like “I just did what I had to do” or “I did what anyone would have done in that situation.” They are obviously uncomfortable with taking any credit for it. I hope and pray that if I’m ever called upon to be a hero, that mysterious reservoir of courage and strength that enabled them to do what they did will somehow open up to me as well.

Actually, I heard Marco on the radio and he had some very promising points in his immigration reform program:
(paraphrasing)
Make immigration based on merit and not on family ties, which means totally rewriting the current immigration code.
No welfare for illegal immigrants.
An honest guest worker program which is sorely needed for our labor force.
A path to citizenship for those already here, including paying fees and following steps to become a citizen.
And emphasis on deporting the criminal illegals and not the hard workers who want to have a better life for their family.
Border control.
A comprehensive plan that works so that we are not right back here in 10 years, with millions of more illegals like what happened in the Reagan years.
The fact is, we cannot afford to do nothing. Open borders, which is what we have now, and preference to allow legal immigration to the poor and not tied to having a job like it used to be, is destroying our economy.
It is better that Rubio finds a solution, than to allow Obama to come up with his plan.
