For 3 DAYS out of the decades-long fracking process, the well has fracking fluid pumped into it. This fluid is supposedly the big bugaboo that is ACK POISONING OUT GROUND WATER. Except it isn’t.

And, oh yeah, it’s not poison. It’s mostly water and sand. A tiny percentage is made up of TABLE SALT plus some lubricants and stuff that are found in cosmetics, household cleaners and food. In other words, it’s nothing we don’t all wash down our drains ALL THE TIME.
- Sodium chloride is common table salt.
- Ethylene glycol is used in antifreeze. It is weakly toxic to humans, but breaks down in water or soil in a few weeks.
- Borate salts is sold in grocery stores as Borax. It’s also found in creams, lotions, shampoos, gels, bath salts, and bath bombs.
- Sodium carbonate is baking soda.
- Potassium carbonate is used in both human and animal food and to soften hard water.
- Guar gum is ground up guar beans. It is used as a thickener and stabilizer in many foods.
- Isopropanol is rubbing alcohol.

Antifreeze is dangerously toxic to pets, but mostly because they are so small and the stuff tastes sweet to them, so if they get at it, they are inclined to ingest enough to poison themselves.
