The shining monument to greed, avarice, corruption, hypocrisy, pomposity, treachery, tyranny and sophistry still stands in our nation’s capitol. We will deal with it in the fullness of time.
As I sat last Saturday, watching my grandson and his teammates on the Winnebago Indian Junior Tackle squad do battle with the Oregon Hawks, I couldn’t help but muse how fortunate these young people were. They have the support of moms, dads, siblings, grandparents and friends. Parents pay for their uniforms and equipment, make sure they make it to practice and to games and usually some family time afterwards. All the kids have to worry about is having a good time, listening and learning from their coaches, and practicing good sportsmanship. Coming from a small town they’ve yet to be touched by racial hatred. They still have time for video games, texting and such, but they have no concerns about the burdens and responsibilities they’ll face as adults. They will never be this young, this energetic, this carefree ever again and it will be a long time before they look back and remember these days fondly. How I envy them.

For more than a century, the tallest mountain on the continent was named after the 25th U.S. president, William McKinley.
Now, in honor of Alaska’s indigenous Athabascan people, who had always called it “Denali,” President Barack Obama is changing it back, the White House said in a release Sunday.
“This designation recognizes the sacred status of Denali to generations of Alaska Natives,” the release said.

Mexico warns Texas not to refuse its immigrants’ babies U.S. birth certificates

The concern was raised in an amicus brief filed Monday evening to lend support to immigrants parents who sued Texas after being denied birth certificates for their U.S.-born children, even after showing their “matrículas,” the ID cards issued by the Mexican Consulate to undocumented immigrants.
The families who are suing say that Texas is violating the 14th amendment and that the state is superseding federal immigration laws.
Texas officials are claiming sovereignty issues and argue that the United States cannot fight them.

‘Racist’ Long Island athletic director fired for enforcing eligibility rules: lawsuit

Students who are failing two or more classes are ineligible for sports, teacher Robert Cincotta, who served as athletic director for the predominantly black Hempstead school district between 2005 and 2013, said in a Brooklyn federal lawsuit.
In February 2013, he began checking grades for all the kids participating in winter sports in the district, such as basketball, wrestling and indoor track, and informing coaches of who would not be allowed to play, Cincotta, who is white, says in court papers.
