from the book of John
The Empty Tomb

20 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.

  1. Happy and Blessed Easter. “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today” has always been one of my favorite hymns.

I finally got around to watching “The Passion” on Fox. What a disappointment.

It’s hard to know where to begin. The roving street reporter interviewing people with nothing to say. Tyler Perry as a chuckling narrator. A bunch of contemporary songs I’d never heard of enlisted to reveal a metaphorical tale of the Cross. Bunch of shots of a largely distracted live audience (though some were into it).

Mostly I think it was just the mediocre music. Trisha Yearwood sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” the only song I recognized (and love), and thereby revealed how today’s contemporary hits pale in comparison. No melody, cryptic lyrics, three chords … not much to work with from today’s charts. Certainly nothing conveying an adequate tribute to our Risen Lord.

Between the commercial interruptions every eight minutes and the mostly-allusive musical references to Christ’s sacrifice, it felt more like “Live On The Red Carpet” than a Passion Play.

I give Fox credit for even mentioning the name Jesus on network television, but it’s an unsatisfying tribute to Palm Sunday and Easter.

I want to thank everyone who has prayed for my husband. He is a walking testimony to the power of prayer. In just five months, he has gone from being completely bedridden with a broken back, broken right arm and a shattered hip which was not connected to the rest of his body, to walking with a cane and having a healed back and arm!! God is so good and He answers prayers!!

I have so many God stories that I’d love to share with you all. We are truly amazed by God’s love, grace and power. Miracles are everywhere, some big, some small. Once we completely gave everything to God, things just worked out. There are no other explanations for the things that happened during these past few months except divine providence.
