My mom wasn’t in good health earlier this year. My three brothers made it back to Bloomington, IN to visit with her in the nursing home; unfortunately, due to time and financial commitments here in L.A. I was unable to join them.
So my tech brother (IT Microsoft) got me on Skype and I was able to participate in real time, having a nice chat with all of them.
Two or three weeks later, on January 16, mom died (it was a long time coming, so …). Skype gave me a final opportunity to say hello and goodbye, with full visuals.
As Dickens would say, these are the best of times, and the worst of times.

It’s true; technology does provide some wonderful benefits, and this is surely one of them. So sorry about the loss of your mother back in January, JD.
