I am 50% Irish and 100% Roman Catholic, which adds up to me choosing to NOT put up any cutesy green graphics today. At least St. Valentine’s Day has some love attached to it. But what’s St. Patrick’s Day about? Getting drunk on green beer, dressing up like mythical variations on Santa’s elves and eating a bunch of foods the Irish don’t actually eat? Criminetly, St. Patrick was a great and holy man! Can you imagine how the oh-so-tolerant Left would react if I celebrated MLK’s birthday by eating watermelon, getting drunk and prancing around in black face wearing a button that said, “Kiss me! I’m Black!”
I know it won’t make a spit’s worth of difference to how people choose to spend March 17th, but I’m just tired of turning the other cheek and worrying 24/7 about how the prickly Left feels about THEIR identities. How about they show some respect for my faith and my heritage, huh? My ancestors came over here in steerage. They weren’t much more than serfs in the Old Country and I’m darn grateful for what they accomplished and what I have enjoyed because they took that big step to leave everything that was familiar. Sheesh. I live 15 miles from where I was born and have email and free cell minutes to keep in touch with my kids. It’s hard for me to even imagine what it meant to them to climb on a boat and travel thousands of miles to a new country.
Green beer and dumb hats just don’t cut it for me, you know?

Americans have never missed a chance to get drunk and act stupid;its the only way some of them get any romance.(think:Henry Waxman;how drunk do you have to be?)
Most of us grow out of juvenile behavior as we age and mature.Unfortunately, liberals seem to thrive on immature and childish behavior. We can all pick out instances almost daily.
The best thing to do is ignore them as best you can and be content with what you make for yourself in life.

Pete, this blog (SOS) is supposed to just be about one state, but there’s so much going on. Regardless, could we use your Grudge report everyday no matter what the topic is? If so, how would you like to be credited?

I post the Grudge daily because I’m up insanely early and try to find things of interest to kindred spirits they might miss because they don’t have a lot of spare time in their day.No credit needed or wanted;its all in the sharing with good friends.

I’ve never really gotten into St. Patrick’s Day. We have no plans and I may wear green but it’s because I always wear green. 😀

Hmmm… I was about to wish everybody a Happy St. Pat’s Day.
I’m 100% Irish and was raised Catholic in a family that hailed from Butte, America – home of one of the largest Irish populations in the world (at one time – not true today). I have never been offended by the celebrations of this day. At least around here, this is a uniquely inclusive celebration of ethnicity – on this one day EVERYBODY gets to be Irish – that’s pretty cool in my book. (Sure as shooting we don’t get to be black on MLK Day now do we?) And as for corned beef – during my childhood, it was a special treat to have meat during Lent – yay for St. Pat! I guess I’m all for anything that brings people together in a happy, convivial mood to celebrate.
Anyway, I sure don’t mean to offend – but to any of you who wish to enjoy the day – be safe, be smart – and the luck o’ the Irish to ye!

I love both Chrissy’s comments, and Auntie Libs, and I fall somewhere in between, but I do think AL’s comment on how EVERYONE gets to be Irish for the day is true and great, and I sure do love the corn beef – but that’s cause I love food first and foremost. Cheers to all – – – even Chrissy [wink]
Oh yea, and that flash mob of Irish dancing made me want to be Irish . (LOVE flashmobs!)

Integrity can have my share of corned beef LOL. I don’t care for it. Or cabbage. Ew.
As for Irish dancing, flash mob or otherwise, I am TOTALLY on board with that! It’s genuinely Irish, difficult to do and beautiful to watch.
And I don’t mean to dis anyone’s pleasure in this, or any other holiday, particularly when it is one that has pleasant memories from childhood. I totally get that!
For me, it’s Valentine’s Day, which my brother in law is very vocal about loathing! LOL But my mom, who rarely expressed approval and never showed affection, got me a little something on Valentine’s Day a couple of times when I was a girl.
The fact that I hang on so tightly to those two little memories is probably evidence of what an emotional desert my childhood was. But heck, at least those two times it was bright and, ever since, big red hearts have made me smile.

You forgot about the music. There’s nothing like it:
For starters: De Dannan, the Chieftains, The Clancy Brothers, Cherish the Ladies, Noirin NiRiain, Boys of the Lough, the Black Family.
How you can miss that is beyond me.

I am NOT trying to start an argument. In fact, I’m not going to say anything more than this and then I’ll shut up. If anyone wants to check out my “facts” they can do it on their own through historical records that are readily available on the internet. Patrick was not a Catholic. He was a member of the Celtic church. He was a seventh-day Sabbath-keeper until he died and taught this doctrine in his schools, as evidenced (in one example) by the testimony of Columba, one of Patrick’s students, who said these words just before he died on a Saturday, “‘This day is called the Sabbath, that is, the day of rest, and such will it truly be to me; for it will put an end to my labors.”
Hope everyone has a wonderful day. I am not sure about mine. Yesterday it was in the 40s. Today it’s snowing. The dog went out and ate dead deer from across the road and then barfed intestines on the living room rug. Fortunately, today is Tina’s working-for-mom day. Also fortunately, I think, nobody’s nose is completely unplugged yet so it could’ve been worse. Jackie is very morose, since she’s tied up inside now so she can’t bolt out the door again every time it’s opened.

I don’t think you did anything wrong, Denise. I think it just has to do with copyright restrictions or something like that. At least that’s my understanding of the situation — someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

I think everyone in Wisconson should not just sign, but help with collecting signatures to recall those dems that ran away from there duties. And the rest of us should post to our facebooks, etc. about the matter. Perhaps Chrissy has a graphic up her sleeve = ) http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/118138494.html
