“THERE ARE ONLY TWO LIFE FORCES THAT HAVE OFFERED TO DIE FOR YOU-JESUS CHRIST AND THE AMERICAN SOLDIER”
In honor of the day I’ve decided to forego a report today to instead reflect on why we are free to take a day off,get together with family for a cookout and watch the parade down Main Street. We are afforded this freedom thanks to the most awesome weapon in the history of mankind-the soldier.
There is some innate force in these people who volunteer to put themselves in harms way and undergo unspeakable hardship in the name of defending the country they love so much. They form a camaderie that few will ever know.Unhesitatingly, they would lay down their lives for their buddies.
As they spread around the world, the loved ones they leave behind ache for them every day. They are mothers.fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles and friends who will miss birthdays, graduations,Thanksgivings and Christmases in order to do what they are called to do.Will they walk up the front steps to hug and kiss their children or will two officers come to the door with a telegram that says:’with deepest regrets?’
I cannot think of a single ideal that a liberal would be willing to shed his own blood for. They consider volunteer soldiers either too stupid to do anything else or homicidal maniacs looking for an excuse to kill. They don’t realize they are allowed to express their lunacy because of the warriors past and present who afford them that right.
Taking one day in remembrance of all those who served from Concord to Gettysburg to the Ardennes to Normandy to Inchon to Saigon,Baghdad and Khandahar is little enough for all those who made the blessings we enjoy today possible.

Wow, Pete, you weren’t kidding about the tissues. Good thing I always keep a box of Kleenex by the computer.

I peek in on you all every so often. Just as Pete put aside his daily routine on posting today, I, too, put aside my routine — by posting and share a message that struck a chord with me.

The veterans of the Vietnam era Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines worked two years to make this monument possible. I’m proud to say my husband was their Company Commander in 1967 and led the fundraising efforts to pay tribute to those who lost their lives. We’ll be dedicating it on Friday with 14 family members of the deceased whose names appear on the monument as well as 300 veterans who were with them during those VN war years.
It’s definitely going to be a memorable Memorial Day week for us 😀
Chrissy, that’s one of my favorite Wall photos, thanks for using it ! And Pete, thanks for all the great videos !!
