Garden Pics from Casa Hyphen

I’m trying to organize, back up and clean off my hard drive in anticipation of getting my new computer.  I just processed these pics Dearest took out in our yard in June. They’re out of season, but they were so nice, I want to share anyway.

The peonies were my dad’s. I transplanted them to my garden in memory of him.

I’m thinking this last one would be a good candidate for our PoliNators border imagery, but maybe the bee is too small?

There will be NO “big picture” pictures of our little patch of God’s Green Earth. IMHO, a garden is like a dance; it doesn’t really exist except when someone is doing it. Sadly, it’s been a long time since anyone around here had time or energy for more than mowing the grass and shoveling the snow. IOW, my gardens look like crap and I’m ashamed of them! Sigh.

These are just beautiful. I doubt very much that your gardens look as bad as you say, with these beautiful plants as part of the ingredients. Maybe they look bad to you because you have a vision of what it should be, if only you had the time and energy and allergy resistance, etc. to get out and do it? I feel that way lots about my garden, too, but I am teaching myself to love it all, whether it meets my vision or not. After being away so much this summer I can see what needs to be done, and it drives me a bit crazy that I haven’t had time to do it. But neighbors stop by and rave, so it is all relative. Try to see it through the neighbor’s eyes.

    • Good advice, Ting. I feel frustrated with my gardens because we had such a bad year financially that I couldn’t spend much on plants this spring, and so there are a lot of bare spots where flowers should be blooming. But there are some parts that look very pretty, if you view them in isolation! I hope to get some good pictures soon that I can share here.

This would’ve worked maybe ten years ago. Now … let’s just say Dearest has to hack down the 3′ tall weeds to take these pics. And I didn’t share the ones of the rambling roses I planted with my own hands. They’re completely chewed full of holes. Sigh.

Back when I had finally accepted that I could NOT garden another season, at ALL, no matter what the temptation, I asked for and got some binoculars for my birthday so I could enjoy my gardens from the windows. I did that for years.

Now. I really don’t. Looking at what has become of my beautiful planting beds is just too damn depressing. Dearest takes these posed, close up pics. I wait for those and daydream about the gardens I will have in heaven.
