Obama’s Crony Capitalism Problem

The left made a lot of political hay for Republicans over UNSUBSTANTIATED allegations of a close relationship between Halliburton and the Bush White House.

Well … it is looking more and more like there’s been a lot of pay-to-play-style shmoozing going on between Solyndra, LightSquared and the Obama White House that can be SUBSTANTIATED.

We’ve got evidence Obama pushed through a huge, unsecured loan (read: gift of our money) to about-to-fail Solyndra, whose executives are now taking the 5th in front of Congress.

We’ve got evidence Gen. William Shelton, who oversees the Air Force Space Command, was pressured by the White House to change his testimony to favor LightSquared, whose major technology bet could cripple Global Positioning Systems (GPS) gear.

GPS is used by all kinds of navigation systems, not just your car’s on board nav system. A lot of cell phones have them now. Sailors, pilots, rescue and military operations depend on accurate GPS. We’re talking about LIVES and NATIONAL SECURITY here. Hello!

Now we have NEW evidence that LightSquared was playing footsie with the Obama White House to get their problematic technology approved for production. And we’re not talking about t-shirts and bumper stickers yelling, “Bush Lied! People Died!”  We’re talking THREE HUNDRED PAGES of emails between the White House and LightSquared.

One example: On the SAME DAY that the LightSquared CEO donated $30,400 to the Democratic Party, two of his deputies appealed personally to the White House for meetings with Obama’s top technology advisers and a LightSquared lawyer sent a chummy email to the head of Obama’s Office of Science and Technology. The emails all mention that LightSquared would be at Obama fundraisers.

Another example: A week after meeting with White House honchos, top LightSquared peeps each donated the maximum allowed to the Democratic Party. They said the donations were “unrelated” to the meetings. Riiiiiiiiiiiiight … just like there are dozens of bridges in North Carolina that Republicans are allowing to go to wrack and ruin. NOT!

One wonders if “real corruption instead of faked up accusations” is what Obama meant when he promised to bring a “new kind of politics to Washington.”
