As the maternal unit of both Army Soldiers and Marine Warriors, it has been my Solemn Duty to know the following by heart:
Army Soldiers go “Hoo Ah.” (This is pronounced HOO uh. Track Palin was in the Army.)
Marine Warriors go “Ooh Rah.” (This is pronounced oo RAH. Advise you never call a Marine “Soldier” to his face, ‘lessen you wanna get a whuppin’. Warrior is preferred, though Jar Head or Leatherneck are permissible. When in doubt, “Go, Green!” is good.)
Navy Sailors go “Hoo Rah.” (This is pronounced OO RAH … kind of half way between the Army and the Marine versions. I think it also kinda sounds like the dive awooga on a submarine.)
Air Force Airman go … well, I didn’t know. So when a family friend who is career Air Force stopped by to show me his uniform, I took the opportunity to ask, “The Army says Hoo Ah, the Marines say Ooh Rah and the Navy says Hoo Rah. What do you guys say?”
He was naturally standing with shoulders squared as befits the uniform, plus he’s taller than me, so maybe that’s the only reason he was looking down his nose as he replied, “In the Air Force, we do not grunt.”
We actually have five Corps. I don’t know what, if anything, the Coasties grunt. I’d love to find out if anyone knows. ??
Also, if you want to refer to military personnel in more than one Corps, use the word troop/troops. It is both gender and Corps neutral. One troop equals one person in uniform.

ROFLLLLLL ::snort:: … Dearest has been taking his turn going to the town meetings to keep an eye on what the Dumbocrat super majority is up to. We’ve got some serious infringements on our rights coming down that pike re: zoning and fracking.
Lately, he’s been coming home laughing instead of red and fuming, because one of the people who won a seat last November is a leftie loonie of the first order. She can’t sit through a meeting or keep her trap shut. She cares about NOTHING but fracking or the rules of order.
The elected chair of the board is a fellow Dumbocrat who can’t STAND this disruptive whack job and, it being her job to play hall monitor, comes in for the bulk of whack job’s bad temper for being told to sit down and/or shut up AGAIN.
I’m enjoying having my hubby not so angry after these meetings. I just hope he gets to be there to see the cat fight that is bound to occur one of these nights. I wonder if anyone videotapes … it would be such a hoot on YouTube.

Whoo … well, good to know not to watch “The Young Turks” again. I have wondered who they were. I googled Cenk. It’s a Turkish boys name that means “battle.” His demeanor suggests he takes it a little too seriously. Just got an email that Hillsdale College’s on-line free Constitution 101 course has had over 200,000 citizens enroll. They’re almost done recording and uploading the ten lectures and ten follow up question and answer sessions. Each of the ten topics also has a reading list and some other stuff that I’m not doing. I’m not even keeping up with the lectures. Only just heard #4 yesterday, but that’s part of the beauty of it. You can do as much or as little as you please.
