I can’t find the demographic numbers in CNN’s poll, but I can say that 875 registered voters should not get an MOE as small as 3.5. I think you have to get over 1,000 in a random sample to go that low.
However, I am not convinced the Examiner’s conclusions are justified either. According to the article (which contains 2 important typos in paragraph 2, so color me underwhelmed), the CNN sample included registered voters = Democrats 50.4% vs. Republicans 45.4% vs. Independents 3.7%.
This looks way off if you compare it to the Gallup party survey for the same week = Democrats 31% vs. Republicans 28% vs. Independents 41%.
But Gallup also asks Independents which way they lean. When you look at leaners, the CNN numbers are actually really close = Democrats 49% vs. Republicans 46% vs. Independents 5%.
My guess is that the real reason behind Obama’s current rosy poll numbers is the skewed NEWS reporting of the two conventions. What I’d like to see is a comparison of Obama vs Romney favorability broken down by primary news sources. THAT would be instructive!

(That’s how information was disseminated in those days.) A few minutes later she returned and said simply, “The president is dead,” and left the room without any further comment.
9-11-01: At home, recovering from a weekend I’d spent at a cabin up north with a group of friends. I had the radio on so I heard when the first strike at the WTC occurred — which everyone assumed was an accident of some sort, since it was inconceivable (then) that such a thing would be done deliberately. Learned the truth when the second strike occurred 20 minutes later.
Yep, it’s the kind of thing you never, ever forget.
