You will be hard-pressed to find a news program on television or radio today that does not lead with the secret video allegedly taped by Jimmuh Carters grandson for Mother Jones and released yesterday.It was from a private fundraiser in May when Romney referred to welfare parasites as what they are….welfare parasites.The carrion crows in the press will leave not a scrap of flesh on these bones as they set about picking it clean.The liberals are dancing in the streets shouting ‘Obama just won the election!’
I think reports of Romney’s demise may be slightly exaggerated.He needs to point out that Obama has shown nothing but contempt for the 53% who are providing for the 47%.He needs to stop being so reactive and start being proactive.If he lets Obama’s surrogates dictate the terms,he is in deep trouble.
In other news,yesterday was the first anniversary of OWS.There were plans by some to dress in suits to try to infiltrate corporate offices,but it didn’t work too well.Being as how thy never wore a necktie,they tied them around their heads like a headband.They also used marijuana sprigs in their lapels as a boutonniere and rubber flipflops don’t go well with a herringbone suit.

Popped by because… I was just reminded by “steevy” on Ace [link] that our Secretary of Statism attended that Mormon-ridiculing musical which got such raves. Consider her recent rant about detesting the ridicule of religions*. I thought, someone should do a good graphic contrasting the hypocrite’s attitudes. So, naturally, I thought of a certain talented thehyphenated.
(BTW, I have wondered: Do I want to ask where thehyphenated part of the name comes from? But I haven’t asked.)

A writer sometimes must excise a wonderful turn of phrase simply because it does not fit, however good it was; this self-editing has been called “murdering my babies.” As I suffer from Verbiage Surfeitosis myself, I’ve murdered many a phrase, but sometimes (thank you cut-and-paste) I can just put them aside, and sometimes later they grow and become whole new articles or stories by themselves. This rambling aside was brought to you by the following partial sentence I excised from a sentence above, but couldn’t stand to throw away. So I share:

Just to be clear … I am not a hyphenated in the sense that Lloyd Marcus is unhyphenated. Dh and I both had really short last names and decided we liked the way they sounded and what they meant when we hyphenated them. The meaning is not just about the creation of a new family out of two, which is cool in itself, but also about the etymology of the words themselves.
I love our last name. Our dds all took their hubby’s last names, so our name will die with us. Just five people in the whole world ever had it. Probably doesn’t appeal to others as much as to us, but for us, it was exactly right.
But then … we always were weird. Our wedding was black and white back when everyone else was doing parfait colors with matching shirt ruffles and cummerbunds – i.e., waaaaaaaaaaay before black and white became all kinds of trendy. We had to special order the traditional white tie and tails from a men’s store in another city. The wedding shops in our town went all google eyed at the very idea anyone wanted to wear “that old crap.” 🙂

1980. I remember lots of yard signs. Even by the Republican standards of our area, it was impressive. Seemed to run counter to the media and polls, which, IIRC. was that Bonzo’s co-star was the fore-ordained loser. I even remember the block we were driving down as we talked about how it was dawning on us that this guy’s not just going to be elected in a landslide; he’s going to be re-elected in a landslide! (Actually, we underestimated; his momentum carried his veep — who was no Ronald Reagan — for a term.)
2012. It’s a small survey sampling, but, AoS commenter discovers Polk Co Fla Repub HQ is sold out of Romney/Ryan signs. Another responds, same in Roanoke, for a long time now and bumper stickers too. Signs of the times? Reagan2.0?

Hurray for Hobby Lobby! It’s one of my daughter’s favorite places, although she doesn’t get to shop there often, since there isn’t one near us. (We don’t have a Chick-fil-A either. But next time we go to Chicago, we’re going to make a point of patronizing both Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby.)

How long a drive would it be for you? It’s about five hours for me, but I usually do it a couple of times a year so I can visit friends in the Chicago area (where I spent the first 21 years of my life). I’m long overdue for another visit and hope to be able to do it sometime this fall or winter.
