How about thinking George Bush is an idiot because he mispronounced “nuclear,” but thinking Barack Obama is a genius even though he can’t pronounce “corpsman”?

Right. Never mind that “nucular” is a very common, possibly regionally based way to pronounce “nuclear.”
It’s definitely not a sign of ignorance. I have a DVD in which a man with a doctorate in science repeatedly uses this pronunciation. I forget what his field is exactly. Definitely a hard math one, not a soft social one.
He is discussing the physical forces underlying the universe, which include the strong nuclear and the weak nuclear forces. Every time he says “nucular.”
I hear people say “jool er ee” all the time, but the word is actually “jewel ree.” Are they stupid or just regionally accented? Ditto Sarah Palin’s accent. Yet if we made fun of Hispanics for their accents, we’d be labeled racists. Oh wait. We already are.
No doubt the fact that nobody in the English speaking world says “corpse man” … repeatedly, no less … makes us RAAACISTS too, what with us suggesting it’s a sign that Obama hasn’t got the highest IQ ever birthed by Gaia.

My daughter’s pet peeve is when people misspell and/or mispronounce the word “caramel.” She drew this cartoon one day after seeing a sign advertising “carmel apples”:

ROFL THAT IS BRILLIANT!! (She is so YOUR daughter LOL) … BTW, totally enjoying her painting on our fridge (safe inside ziploc). I thought it was just a sketch. Did she redo it on watercolor paper??!! It’s so good. Love the colors! The frame I had thought I’d use (an old one, good enuf for a sketch) is nowhere near good enough for the real thing. I’m going to wait until Monkey Mama comes, so we can talk frame and mat colors. I’m thinking I want to bring out the green in the owl’s eyes and one of the feather browns. Hoping that’ll help the delicate blues and yellows in the bubbles pop a bit.

Yes, she redid the sketch, turned it into a painting. The original was very small.

Speaking of language … I did not know there was a word for this. I wonder if it’s legal for SCRABBLE?
ButtHurt: An inappropriately strong negative emotional response from a perceived personal insult. Characterized by strong feelings of shame. Frequently associated with a cessation of communication and overt hostility towards the “aggressor.”
I googled it because Angelaisms retweeted this FUNNY pic @ http://twitpic.com/buqx0t
