About that Second Amendment thing

Liberal Second Amendment

After Jim Carrey tweeted some rudeness to gun rights advocates (the usual, “you don’t care about the children!” b.s.), Adam Baldwin tweeted this back:

Adam Baldwin ‏@adamsbaldwin – #AnswerTheQuestionJim: @JimCarrey, what is your interpretation of Federalist #46 & SCOTUS’ D.C. v. Heller & McDonald v. Chicago decisions?

Being too iggerant to recognize any of the above, I googled. In case any of y’all are equally clueless (my brother can ignore this blog), here’s the short version.

District of Columbia v. Heller (2008)

The Supreme Court held that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to possess a firearm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home and within federal enclaves. The decision did not address the question of whether the Second Amendment extends beyond federal enclaves to the states.

McDonald v. Chicago (2010)

The Supreme Court held that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to keep and bear arms for self-defense, regardless of what any local governments may decide.

Federalist No. 46

“The Influence of the State and Federal Governments Compared”, an essay by James Madison (writing as Publius) published in 1788. It examines the relative strength of the state and federal governments under the proposed United States Constitution. Among other things, he wrote that a national military force need not be feared when a very much larger number of private citizens are armed and ready to fight for their liberty.

This bums me out. Dumb and Dumber was one of my most favorite comedies, and now Lloyd Christmas has been forever tainted for me because Jim Carrey just HAD to say something really stupid about guns. This idiot came from Canada, found his fame and fortune here, and accepted U.S. citizenship, knowing full-well that a second amendment existed. Maybe he didn’t care about kids back then. Now I’m even MORE chagrined that my husband and I wasted $40 on Burt Wonderstone this weekend, which sucked with the force of 1,000 Dysons.

I’ll have to think on my Jim Carrey DVDs. I think I only have Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty.

I didn’t chuck my Tyler Perry’s until I saw him hosting a fund raiser for him for his re-election. I think takes a special kind of brain-dead “faith” in Jesus to keep on supporting a man this full of lies and evil just cuz he’s brown.

I couldn’t continue to separate Perry’s faux faith from his characters and his work, so they went in the trash. (Cost me too … I had 5 I think.)

Carrey, though … I knew he was a jackass when I bought these, because I’ve hated most of his movies.

MORE Twitter fun. Greg Gutfeld weighs in on what a jerk Jim Carrey is.

Wow, @jimcarrey is desperate to please his masters. I wonder if he’s fed a liver snap every time he trashes law abiding Americans.

Comparing @jimcarrey to Charlton Heston is like comparing a wart to the Sistine Chapel.

The Second American Revolution is coming. I just hope the Rapture comes first.

“Under Obama there is now a similar paramilitary force in possession of MORE ROUNDS OF AMMUNITION THAN THE US MILITARY, and the ammo for which we can account, is comprised of one billion hollow point bullets, the type that are used to maim as they kill and not the type of round used for target practice.

“The country is being swallowed by debt, there is no energy policy, and healthcare taxes have yet to take hold. Instead of taking responsibility for his actions, Obama’s gambit will be, “Everything must be nationalized. I have no other choice,” and there will be paramilitary patrols going up and down every street. It’s called declaration of martial law. Make no mistake: this is the Second American Revolution, and it’s pretty clear there’s a guest list.”
