I have met a couple like that in real life! We went on a cruise in January for several years in a row, and each year there was this same couple from Texas who dressed just like the photos Pete posted, except!!!! they had cowboy hats to match the outfits, too. It was pretty hard to miss them and everybody talked to them on the ship, and out and about on the various islands. They stayed for 6 weeks on the boat every year. The second year, they made some friends who started dressing alike, too, but they didn’t have those monstrously big cowboy hats. It was a sight to behold.

I am actually kind of impressed that Nordstrom’s set up those testing centers. Yes, I know it is CYA, but still…..
My daughter’s high school had an outbreak of TB, brought in by some immigrant students. Since my daughter sat in the same desk as one of the ill girls, but at a different time of day, she had to be tested several times, but managed to avoid the very expensive medication that some of the others who had potential exposure had to take. The local govt. had clinics there at the school for the testing, but I think the meds were charged to parents’ insurance companies.
Somehow I think Nordstrom will pay for meds if anyone else becomes ill.

That is one of the wierdest thing I have ever read. My children never even liked pacifiers so I don’t know how they managed to survive without allergies and rashes, according to that article.

Haha! My first three babies all loved their pacifiers, but the fourth — the fussiest one of the lot, and the one who would have benefitted most from using a pacifier — flat out refused to take one. I took a LOT of flack from some know-it-alls for giving them pacifiers; a lot of alleged “experts” seem to be absolutely opposed to anything that makes a mother’s life easier (pacifiers, playpens, baby swings, etc.). I stopped listening to “experts” very early in the game.

Oh, Lord, I tried all of those things. The swings and the jumping things worked sometimes but as often as I stuck that pacifier in their mouths, they spit it out every time. I was so hoping they would like it so I could put them down and do something – like brush my teeth.
I did not let them get attached to blankets, though. I saw all of my friends having to look all over creation for lost blankets that were filthy and in shreds, and I just did not want to deal with that. My youngest sort of wanted to get attached to her blanket when she was a toddler and watching other kids, but I would not let her walk around with it. I told her the blanket had to stay in the crib and if she wanted to spend time with the blanket she had to be in there, too. The blanket wasn’t so interesting anymore. My sister found a tiny piece of her son’s blanket a year or so ago when she was cleaning out his room – he will be 30 years old this summer, and they moved into that house when he was in middle school!

I think you handled the blanket thing brilliantly! My kids didn’t have special blankets that they dragged around, but they did love their pacifiers. I loved them too, because it prevented them ever getting into the habit of sucking their thumbs. Pacifiers can at least be sterilized (something I did frequently, as I’m kind of paranoid about germs)… and when they get to the age where they need to give them up, it’s a lot easier to get a kid to give up a pacifier than to get them to give up thumb sucking. I ended up bribing each of my kids by buying them some toy they were really lusting after in exchange for throwing the pacifier away. Worked like a charm.

Yep! Those are my girls. The gray one (Violet) is a purebred pitbull, and the white one (Delphi) is a bullmastiff/pittie mix. Both are rescue dogs, and living where I live (urban, feral population), they are my best friends, alarm system, and bodyguards when I want to take a walk. They are also big goofs, and make me laugh about 100x every day. Wonderful family dogs, too, believe it or not!

Ting you might want to look a little closer at Hillary Rodham Clinton and especially her relationship with Vince Foster. You might also look at whether he was about to become a whistleblower….. Vince Foster did not commit suicide. Someone killed him and made it look like suicide.
