It’s A-OKAY to diss Catholics

The Lefty Tolerance and Civility Police have a long list of Politically Incorrect words, phrases and actions … but there is one minority they have No Problemo with people bashing.

Catholics.

You can’t make fun of Muslims cuz that would be “disrespectful” … but boy oh boy … put a crucifix in a jar of urine and they’ll call it “artistic expression.” Even better, pee on a religious picture and do an entire sit com about some foolish Catholic woman who thinks the pee is miraculous tears.

The latest So What’s the Big Deal? shrug is over this abomination:

2013_10 04 Burger garnished with Communion wafer

Luke Tobias, director of operations at Kuma’s Corner, said he is baffled that Catholics are upset.

“We didn’t expect this reaction. Apparently, today, someone’s coming out to do a rosary prayer over our restaurant,” Tobias said. “We’ve done plenty of burgers named after fairly controversial bands in the past to seemingly no visible effect. It’s based on a band, just like every other burger on our menu.”

Seriously? You don’t get why this is offensive? Here’s a thought … do a burger that’s offensive to Muslims. You won’t be getting people saying rosaries for you, I can guarantee that.

  1. In other “Lefties Are Stupid” news, when concerned parents called their children’s school to ask about “the man with a gun”, the school never thought to reassure them that it was a fellow parents who is a police officer.

Noooooooooooooooooo … they called the cop and told him to stop picking picking up/dropping off his child in uniform. Un-freaking-believable.

He made fun of them on Facebook and now they’re thinking, Oh Wait, we could use this as a Teachable Moment. ::snort::

  2. Personally, I’m more offended by the burger (won’t say what it looks like) than the wafer, since it isn’t consecrated. But I can understand why some people would be, especially with the double standard. I can’t imagine why they’re so surprised. You can’t take people’s religion so lightly and expect no reaction whatsoever.

That is a dubious burger, I agree. Would not eat. Even without the classless garnish.

I was so focused on the host, I didn’t pay much attention to the burger until you gals mentioned it. Now .. EW! And in the context of the host, EVEN MORE EW!! Especially for a Catholic such as myself who is really moved by the Eucharistic Miracles God has graciously given us to support out faith in transubstantiation. The guys who created this abomination may not understand what it means, but Satan most certainly does.

          • I’m an Anglican, so I believe in Real Presence… but even when I was a little kid in the Baptist church (where communion is merely a memorial, nothing more) I was instinctively of in awe of the elements. I remember one day when I was about eleven years old, my friend Pam and I were alone in the church building for some reason (I don’t recall the circumstances), and we were poking around in the church kitchen and we found the cupboard where they kept the crackers that were used for communion. We were hungry, and Pam suggested we chow down on the crackers, but I was afraid it would be disrespectful, if not sacrilegious. She said it was okay because “they hadn’t been prayed over,” and of course she was right, strictly speaking — they were just crackers… but I was still terribly uneasy about the whole thing. I have no idea what would have happened if we had gotten caught. No doubt we would have been scolded for pilfering the crackers, but I wonder if the fact they were intended for communion would have made it a more serious offense. Guess I’ll never know, since we didn’t get caught!
