Last March, the House Ethics Committee said it would formally investigate allegations that Andrews, 56, improperly used campaign funds for personal use, such as a 2011 trip to Scotland for a wedding with his wife and two daughters. Andrews later repaid $30,000 in costs associated with the trip, according to investigative documents.
Andrews also used campaign funds to host a June 2011 event at his home that has been described as both a graduation party for his daughter and a celebration of his congressional service. He spent additional campaign money to travel to Los Angeles, where is daughter was pursuing an acting career.

I live in a ‘food desert’, but there are cheap public transit lines to at least 4 nearby big-box groceries. Within 2 blocks of my house, there are 2 corner stores, one of which stocks some fresh produce that just rots on the shelf. The problem isn’t that people in so-called ‘food deserts’ have no access to fresh foods; it’s that there is no interest in wholesome food around here. I’ve got two neighbors who say they don’t like water. WATER! You need that to SURVIVE, and yet they will continue to drink soda and be dehydrated and suffer UTIs because water grosses them out. They were raised by parents who couldn’t care less about nourishing their families, and they just never developed a taste for real, unprocessed food. That kind of attitude seems to be the norm around here, and I’m pretty sure that’s what caused the ‘food desert’ situation, and not the other way around.

Violet, you nailed it. The stores stock what the customers want to buy. I’ve read many articles from reporters who actually investigated the situation (as opposed to taking Michelle Obama’s word for it), and they found the same thing: fresh fruit rotting on the shelf, while shoppers check out with carts full of processed industrial food (which they pay for with their SNAP cards). It’s depressing. Not only do we taxpayers have to pay for their candy bars and potato chips and soda pop, we also have to cover their medical bills when they end up with diabetes and kidney failure and heart disease from eating and drinking all that crap.
