I left the house for work at 1:30 AM. It was 28 degrees. We don’t have the snow yet,but it’s coming. At least now I drive my own car, which has a decent heater in it. Before I retired,I drove a route truck and cold weather was miserable, especially when the truck had a diesel engine that was prone to gelling up. We had no real summer to speak of,with temperatures getting down to the 40’s many nights and the days getting to maybe 70 or so. The public pools and the water theme park here suffered the most.
All that’s left to do now is hunker down and prepare for the holidays and the bleak landscape we’ll be looking at afterward until at least late April. My gas bill is starting to go up and my electric bill hasn’t gone down much even though we hardly used the central air. This is all part of King Barack I’s scheme to necessarily skyrocket energy prices.
Speaking of which, the miserable prick cut a phony climate deal with the Chinese strongman to inflict even more pain on the American people for no reason other than he wants to. I have a link to it,so I won’t lay it all out here.

Idiot Obama Signs Agreement With China to Cut US EMISSIONS
Barack Obama signed an agreement with China on Wednesday to unilaterally cut US emissions.

Obama promised to kill coal. It was one promise he kept.
China, the world’s biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, pledged in the far-reaching agreement to cap its rapidly growing carbon emissions by 2030, or earlier if possible.

It also set a daunting goal of increasing the share of non-fossil fuels to 20 percent of the country’s energy mix by 2030. Obama announced a target to cut U.S. emissions 26 to 28 percent below 2005 levels by 2025, the first time the president has set a goal beyond the existing 17 percent target by 2020.

UN Arms Treaty to Take Affect Dec. 24th…Will Make It Illegal For Private Citizens to Own Guns

On its official website, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (yes, that’s really a thing and yes, it is housed right here in the United States) announced that the UN’s Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) “will enter into force on 24 December 2014.”

    Merry Christmas!

It is ironical that on the day before the world’s 2.18 billion Christians commemorate the coming of Jesus Christ to the Earth, the United Nations will officially put into motion a plan to deny them of a right given to them by the very God whose birth they celebrate.

Of course,Barry goes right along with whatever the tinpot tribe at the UN wants to do to the American people.

Mitch McConnell Slams Climate Change Deal as an ‘Unrealistic Plan’ in Scathing Statement
Our economy can’t take the president’s ideological war on coal that will increase the squeeze on middle-class families and struggling miners,” McConnell said in a statement emailed to TheBlaze.

“This unrealistic plan…would ensure higher utility rates and far fewer jobs.”
“This unrealistic plan, that the president would dump on his successor, would ensure higher utility rates and far fewer jobs,” he continued. “The president said his policies were on the ballot, and the American people spoke up against them.”
Rant all you care to,Obola is immovable. He’s doing exactly what he plans to do,the American people be damned.

Obama orders ‘mental-health’ testing for schoolkids

Using “gun violence” as its cover, the Obama administration has quietly unleashed a cache of federal dollars that will be used for testing students for signs of mental health issues in K-12 schools.

Critics say personal information scooped up in the screenings will be logged into databases that will follow the child throughout his or her academic career and beyond.

Public schools, which have increasingly taken on aspects of psychiatric clinics in recent years, will get infused with more than $150 million in federal grants to further this agenda under the auspices of Obama’s 2013 executive action titled “Now is the Time to Do Something About Gun Violence.”

Obama took the action following the Sandy Hook, Connecticut, school shooting, putting Vice President Joe Biden in charge of a task force on “gun violence.”

GOP adds another Senate seat as Sullivan wins Alaska
    That makes 53
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dan Sullivan defeated Sen. Mark Begich, the Democratic incumbent, in Alaska’s U.S. Senate race Wednesday – a win that gives the GOP eight Senate pickups in the midterm elections.

The Republican Party also is seeking a ninth seat in Louisiana’s runoff in December.

Begich stole this seat in 2008 after the dem AG brought bogus felony corruption charges against then-senator Ted Stevens just days before the election.Good riddance to him.

Singer Rihanna Visits the White House, Says Best Part of Visit is ‘My President Being Black’
If you’re a black liberal running in 2016 you have her vote.

The pop superstar, who is in town to perform at a free Veterans Day event called the Concert for Valor, was caught exiting the White House by TMZ.

She had quite the response when the TMZ photographer asked her about the best part of her visit. “My president being black,” she told the reporter, before getting into a car.

    • Rihanna… Says Best Part of Visit is ‘My President Being Black’

I am getting beyond fed-up with the racists, sexists, and, uh, sexual-orientationists, seeing everything through their grievance filters.

Healthy, normal, well-adjusted people live in that world of which ML King spoke, and judge by character. Every time I hear any of these people, I want to reverse the flow and call ’em as they are.

      Rhianna, you’re just a straight-up racist bigot.

Oh, oh, now, wait a second. Perhaps she meant Obama had no other actual admirable quality than his pretty skin. If that’s the case, I take it back. (Yeah.)

Tone-deaf big name musicians play anti-military song at ‘Concert for Valor’
this supposed celebration of our fighting men went as most liberal get-togethers do.Bruce Springsteen and Zac Efron did an old anti-war song about politically-connected men that avoided the draft while poor guys went.(Albert R. Gore Jr.)
Perhaps we should expect no less during the Obama administration, but a Veterans Day event on the National Mall was marred when artist Bruce Springsteen and other notable musicians decided to play an iconic anti-military song.
Nevertheless, as great a song as it is, it’s likely not an appropriate choice for a Veterans Day event, as The Weekly Standard noted.
I always thought Springsteen was overrated anyway.

Adding to the dismay, rapper Eminem also performed at the event and dropped more than a dozen “f-bombs,” including “Happy mother-f*king Veterans Day!”

The NSFW video above shows the entire offensive performance from the moment he was introduced by Rihanna (“DC make some mother f***ing noise”), to his well-wishes for the vets in the crowd (“Happy mother f***ing Veterans Day”) to the continuous and gratuitous f-bombs peppered throughout the finale of the concert.

I saw this on F&F this morning and it made me furious.A federal judge ruled concealed carry was constitutional so the pricks that run this liberal shithole made it nearly impossible to get a CCP.
I have a feeling the court battle on this issue is far from over and more lawsuits fighting against the impossible regulations surrounding concealed carry in D.C. will surely be filed.

I/m not including any excerpts from the article becasue its so sickening. They’re trying to make it impossible to get a permit.

    The Unlikeliest Winner
No one expected unknown, cash-poor Johnny Tacherra to be competitive in CA-16. But he may have won.

As of publication time, Republican Johnny Tacherra is leading longtime Democratic lawmaker Jim Costa in the race for the Golden State’s 16th congressional district. With provisional ballots still to be counted, and with a 700-plus-vote cushion, Tacherra is confident that he will survive. In fact, he and his wife are heading to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday to take part in freshmen-member orientation on Capitol Hill.
“We had a candidate who worked like a dog and went after Democratic votes,” says Fogliani. “[Costa] thought he could give [voters] the lip service of the past, and that they would always buy it, but they didn’t.”

Tacherra expects to know the final tally of the race by the end of the day on Wednesday, when he’s in Washington for orientation. If it all holds, he can start making himself comfortable in his congressional office — although you can expect him to handle business differently than his predecessor did.

This is a blueprint for how to win elections

Black Gunmen Kill 5-Year-Old White Girl After Opening Fire On Her Home In Milwaukee . . . Media Silent…

Yes,I’m shouting.I’ve had it up to here with these maggots who kill at will just because they feel like it and there’s no outrage. It’s just business as usual. But a big thug robs a store, tries to beat a cop to death and gets whats coming to him and the riots and protests aren’t over after more than four months.Gun sales have skyrocketed, businesses are boarding up their windows because this black plague will have their chaos. And nobody can stop them.
The house was located in a census tract that is 77% black and 14% white.

The Milwaukee Sentinel and Milwaukee channel 6 have actually been trying to downplay the murder. They are falsely reporting that it was “a stray bullet.” That directly contradicts all the evidence found by police.

Pregnant woman panhandling with small child is caught in Mercedes, laughing while counting cash
Smith told an ABC affiliate in San Diego that she had seen a pregnant beggar and child at Eastlake Village Center every weekend for two months. The woman held up a cardboard sign that said “please help.” She stood by a young boy who may have been her son, and was sometimes joined by a man who may have been her husband or boyfriend. Smith estimated that a good Samaritan would stop and donate to the woman on the average once a minute.
Smith contacted a local TV station and Team 10 ran the license plate number. It came back registered to a woman with an apartment complex address where residents say monthly rent is $2,400 per month. It appeared the beggar and her accomplices had already moved out, probably moving on to their next scam.

Homeless advocates stress that there are better ways to help the needy than by handing them money. Lesson learned.

I’m running a little low on outrage after the last post.

School District Bans Christmas, Easter and Jewish Holidays From Calendar Following Debate Over Muslim Request

They were having a sale at OUTRAGES ‘R’ US
The 7 to 1 vote that was taken Tuesday afternoon to ax all religious holidays from the Montgomery County Schools 2015-2016 calendar came after Muslim leaders urged officials to add Eid al-Adha, an Islamic holiday, to the school schedule, according to the Washington Post.

The initial battle to add Eid al-Adha reportedly centered around references to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur and a quest for equality on the calendar.

Having a muslim in the White Hut has emboldened them to grab for things they never would have before.
These amendments, though, don’t change the days students actually have off, as absences are high on Christian and Jewish holidays and the days will, thus, still be granted off.

The new calendar will simply not mention these religious observances by name. As for Muslim holidays, officials said there isn’t enough of a student and faculty absentee impact to grant them, WRC-TV reported.

    Politically-Challenged: Texas Tech Edition

The Great Ripoff: Why College Isn’t for Everyone
The funny thing is: Every time the federal government increases the amount of money that college students can borrow, college tuition goes up. But teaching isn’t a commodity like oil or wheat or steel whose actual value goes up and down due to market forces.

    • A little context for the first of these two videos, the Texas Tech interviews.

When the vid came out, Ace of Spades commenter drowningpuppies (it’s a weird place, AoS) dropped this comment:

In Texas, if you need a lawyer you call a UT grad.
If you need a doctor you call a Baylor grad.
If you need a veterinarian you call an A&M grad.
If you need a pizza you call a Texas Tech grad.

      Just for perspective.

  17. Well, garden dwellers, I’ve got about a dozen tabs open. Time to share! 🙂

This properly belonged on the Veterans Day thread, I suppose.

Richard Overton, America’s oldest living veteran still drives, smokes cigars, and would like to get married again. At 108. Born in Bastrop County, Texas on May 11, 1906, he served at Pearl Harbor, Okinawa, and Iwo Jima. during WW II as a member of the U.S. Army. “I was shot over my head, between my legs, around my ears, and everything, but it wasn’t my day to go.”

More on this grand American at the Pundit Press link.

    • That video in my last comment, c/o Moonbattery.

Instead of just posting the YouTube URL and letting WordPress handle the embedding, I used a <frame> tag so as to compensate for the vertical framing of that video, experimenting to see if an Ordinary Commenter can use frames, which apparently I could. Live and learn. Don’t you think it looks nicer without the bands of “letterboxing”?

However, if some enterprising blog Wizard wanted to edit my comment to reduce the size on that from width=360 height=640 to something like width=270 height=480, it might look better.

I don’t mean to be so much trouble! 😀

I tried but couldn’t figure out how to make it smaller. I preferred seeing it at YouTube with the landscape format, but it’s mostly because I’m so anal, it bugged me that I couldn’t see the whole picture without scrolling up and down and up and down. I should’ve just set it on his face and relaxed, but meh.

  18. Here’s something fiercely painful. To start with, it’s nearly two minutes of the jug-eared traitor’s prattle. Worse, it’s from the debates and he’s hot on “telling Romney off.” The incredible irony of everything he says, in light of the subsequent two years, is the most brutal of all, though, from O’s mocking Romney for saying Russia was a threat, to the need for leadership in the Middle East.

Thanks to Mockarena at Chicks on the Right for this painful reminder.

  19. Last time I checked, despite exponential growth in the web, seemed like I couldn’t find as many articles about ‘Arkancides’ as I could a few years previous. Of course, those kinds of rumors about the Clintons were all just a bunch of right-wing-nuts conspiracy theorists.

So, why does my blood freeze when I read that on the Ellen show Mr Bill reflected…

“But the thing about ‘Scandal’ and ‘House of Cards’ that makes it fun to watch is that I can’t imagine that either a President Spacey or the president’s chief of staff on ‘Scandal’ could really get away with murder,” Clinton chuckled, to laughs from the daytime talk show’s audience.

“I wish I’d known about that when I was in office,” the 42nd president added, before wondering aloud, “You know, think of all the opportunities I’ve missed … so little time … so many people had it coming. Crazy.”

  20. Clinton quote was from Weasel Zippers quoting The Hill

By high school, I was a hard SF fan, didn’t care for fantasy or sword and sorcery. Tolkien’s masterwork is a class unto itself. I read them all in High School, including all those appendices. Of course, whether Milady liked it, too, was a big test of our love (haha); we adventured through it reading together. Maybe twice. Soon after we moved back to Oklahoma, we read the whole series through aloud to the kids as nighttime stories. And when they got older, they all read through Hobbit and Lord of the Rings on their own. That’s how much we like it.

I hope someday somebody can adapt them to live-action film, true to the books. I would hate for anyone to adulterate them horribly and leave a stinking pile of rubbish as the film version for decades to come. (Bad enough what they did to the later Harry Potter books; the first one is still the best.) Anyone who would pervert Tolkien must be a horrible ogre, an orc of lowest breeding. A servant of Sauron!

Oh, look. Says here, Peter Jackson gave Colbert a LOTR Sword, saying, “This is for sticking it to the Tea Party in the forthcoming election.”

Video at Truth Revolt I haven’t watched.

I like the HP movies. They’re different from the books, but duh … they’re movies. It’s very rare when a written story is so simple and pictorial that it translates easily to film. The Little Prince is the only example I know of. And BTW, it is not universally true that the book is always better than the film. E.g., Pinocchio and Forrest Gump.

However, it may be true that books based on films are mostly worse; I haven’t yet found an exception to that one, but there probably is at least one out there. I’m really into the whole book-movie thing. I have a special shelf for books we own for which we also have the movies.

I made a point of collecting book-movie combos to help teach my girls about how much the media affects the telling of a story. So does the era in which the story is told or retold. One of my favorite English classes in college was Arthurian Myth. We started with the earliest ones and read through the centuries, ending with 20th c. movies. It’s a fascinating subject.

My favorite thing is when the book and the movie are both good, but different, because the book is true to the strengths of the written word while the film is true to the strengths of the cinema.

One thing that bothered me a lot in the HP books that the films corrected is that Rowling is terrible at staging. I don’t think she visualizes well, whereas I do, so her staging boo-boos always yank me out of the story. (My copies have copious NOTES in the margins. Harumph.)

      • cth: “I like the HP movies…” Yeah, I have my nerdy gripes about some of it, but that was some of the greatest casting ever! Some months back, Milady and I started watching the first one, and of course didn’t stop ’til we’d watched the whole series. Explain a bit about “Rowling is terrible at staging”? An example, perhaps, where you thought the movie better in that?

Our kids are of that privileged generation that got to read ’em as they came out. Me, too.

        I like the books/movies shelving.

        • chrissythehyphenated

“Privileged” ??? As me and mine agonizingly waited for each new book, then each new movie, I developed a sharp sense of empathy with those earliest fans of the Tolkien Trilogy. 🙂

Worst staging issue I noticed was in Book 3 when Harry, Ron and Hermione face down Sirius Black in the Shrieking Shack.

“On a magnificent four-poster bed with dusty hangings lay Crookshanks, purring loudly at the sight of them. On the floor beside him, clutching his leg, which stuck out at a strange angle, was Ron.” Ron is on floor “beside him” … no, Ron is on the floor; the cat is on the bed.

“Harry and Hermione dashed across to him.” So they’re where … standing beside Ron? Both on one side or on either side? In what relationship to the bed and the cat?

“Without knowing what he was doing, [Harry] started forward, but there was a sudden movement on either side of him and two pairs of hands grabbed him and held him back.” Harry “started forward” … he didn’t get up first, so he’s been on his feet. Two pairs of hands reach out. No idea if Hermione is crouched down by Ron or standing with Harry.

“Ron, however, spoke to Black … though the effort of standing upright was draining him of still more color, and he swayed slightly as he spoke.” He’s standing all of a sudden? With a leg that is broken badly enough to stick out at a strange angle? Riiiiiiiiiiight. When and how did he pull THAT off, esp given that Hermione was right there and would NEVER let him try to stand on that leg?

“Ron said weakly, though he was clinging painfully to Harry to stay upright.” Harry had started forward. Even if he didn’t take an entire step, Ron is still behind him and off balance, So how did he get to where he could use Harry for support? I had a painful ankle injury once. Hopping was agony. Even using crutches was hard the first day or so because every jostle sent pain shooting up from the injury.

“Harry roared, and with a huge effort he broke free of Hermione’s and Ron’s restraint and lunged forward.” Hmmm, amazing how much effort it takes him to “break free” from a girl and a boy in agony who is standing on one leg. I realize adrenaline can dull pain, but sheesh.

“Hermione’s foot swing out of nowhere. Black let go of Harry with a grunt of pain; Ron had thrown himself on Black’s wand hand and Harry heard a faint clatter” Black does not have a wand of his own; he has Harry’s, Ron’s and Hermione’s. And Ron could NOT have gone from standing to throwing himself on anything … not with that leg.

“Ron crawled to the four-poster and collapsed onto it, panting, his white face now tinged with green, both hands clutching his broken leg.” He could only “collapse” on to an old-fashioned four-poster from a standing position.

          • Wow, be careful what I ask for, eh? That’s quite a parsing. Imagine staging a video of that scene, as written in the book – heh.
