Petoskey Underwater Crucifix

The 1,850-pound cross of white Italian marble is 24 feet down and attached to a metal pedestal at the bottom of the Bay. It is a well-known dive spot, about 600 yards off Sunset Park in Petoskey. In the winter months, if the ice gets thick enough, a local dive club clears a path out on the ice and drills a hole in the Bay so non-divers can see the Crucifix.

The video below shows divers cleaning the Crucifix, something that needs doing about twice a year. There is a narration starting at about one minute in, so don’t succumb to the desire to turn off the annoying music.
