Kudos to the Franklin County, Tenn., School Board for standing strong against outside gay activist bullying!
On Monday, April 11, the Board voted 7-1 to institute new school club regulations that directly address abuses which are unique to gay school clubs.
- They are coordinated by national LGBT organizations.
- They depend on secrecy and deception.
- They give access to un-vetted outside activists.
- They provide students with information, materials, and student activities that parents consider dangerous and offensive.
Establishing regulations rather than banning gay clubs makes it impossible for gay activists and the ACLU to sue the district. Plus, experience has shown that gay school clubs don’t last long when they are required to be transparent and adult activists are barred.
Common-sense regulations that apply to all clubs have been upheld by the federal courts. Schools can also legally restrict certain club materials, because the First Amendment simply does not protect lewd, obscene, or pornographic materials in the school context.
The regulations strategy was provided by Liberty Counsel, a tax-exempt legal organization that specializes in evangelical Christian litigation.
