CTH: I’m so old, I took typing on a manual typewriter! 🙂

GRANNY ALWAYS USED LARD IN HER PIE DOUGH. THERE WAS NOTHING LIKE IT.

THERE WAS NOTHING LIKE SLEEPING ON AIR-DRIED SHEETS
CTH: Don’t they cover books in public school? My girls were doing this in the 80s and 90s.
CTH: Ewwwww … I’d totally forgotten the heinous, hours-long job of defrosting the freezer! We are so spoiled now!
THE BEST HAMBURGERS IN THE WORLD
CTH: My earliest memory of this is from when I was about 4 and my mom had treated me to a Purple People Eater mask, then we went to get a bite at the lunch counter. I remember so clearly sitting in my chair with that mask on and looking at my reflection in the mirror that our Woolworth’s had instead of a backsplash. I just googled that song and, yup, I was 4. “The Purple People Eater” is a novelty song written and performed by Sheb Wooley, which reached no. 1 in the Billboard pop charts in 1958.”

Yep, I remember all that stuff… I hated typing class with the heat of a thousand suns, I loved Woolworth’s lunch counter, I thought Beatle wigs were stupider than heck (why were they always black, when not one of the Beatles had black hair?), I loved record stores, I hung hundreds of loads of laundry on a clothesline… And the best pie crusts are still made with lard; some things never change.

I remember well going to Woolworth’s with Granny. They had such amazing toys. We’d sit at the lunch counter and we’d watch the cook make patties by hand, drop them on the flat iron grill and then butter the bun and put it on the grill with a cover on it so the edges got a nice crust.Granny’d have her cup of coffee…they’d give her two creamers then she asked for two more. She drank a concoction that was half coffee and half cream.I think they called it Boston Coffee.Down the street was a Ben Franklin 5 and 10 cent store. You could actually buy stuff back then.
