Texas Voters Casting Early Ballots Claim Voting Machines Switching Their Ballot Choices

Voters casting their ballots early in Texas claimed this week that when casting Democratic or Republican straight-ticket ballots, voting machines in at least 80 counties in the Lone Star State flipped their votes to the other party in key midterm races, including the high-profile competition between incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz and his Democratic opponent Beto O’Rourke.

CtH: And what a shocker (not) that it’s flipping parties … seeing as Republicans are way ahead down there.

    170 The issue of the Texas voting machines is simple. A voter presses the “party-line” vote button. The incredibly slow 8080 microprocessor takes a really long going through the ballot to mark all of the votes. But the voter thinks he/she is done and presses the “I’m done” button. But alas, the ballot has not been completed.

    A similar but longer and more detailed explanation in this fellow’s comment. Quote from that:

    What voters tend to do is try use the Selection Wheel to advance the page (not necessary) after hitting the Enter button. What this does is change your straight ticket vote from Party A to Party B as if you had changed your mind during the review step.

    Never presume malicious intent when human incompetence – especially including poor computer-human interface hardware and software – is an adequate explanation.

    My Oklahoma paper ballots have never ever changed on me.
