TRUMP’S UK TRIP: Somebody needs to point out to The View that neither Bill Clinton nor Barack Obama served in the military. As for Joe Biden, he received five student draft deferments during the Vietnam War and later was disqualified from service because of asthma as a teenager. Lots of guys were disqualified for seemingly stupid physical failings. One of my brothers went to Vietnam and was badly injured; the other was disqualified from service due to flat feet and poor vision. [4:52]

Drexel

CATHOLIC HERO: Katharine Drexel was born into a wealthy family in Philadelphia in1858, but when she got older, she took a vow of poverty, founded a new order of religious sisters (the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament), and devoted her great wealth to serving Native Americans and African-Americans. (The money she inherited from her father would be worth about $400 million in today’s dollars.)

In 1922, a local KKK group turned against one of the order’s schools in Beaumont, Texas, and threatened to tar and feather the pastor and bomb his church. The nuns prayed and days later, a tornado came and destroyed the headquarters of the KKK killing two of their members. The Sisters were never threatened again. Continue reading

You can’t be Pro-Choice and Catholic

lord lord

This week, Illinois passed the most extreme pro-abortion state legislation in America — with some Catholic lawmakers taking the lead in pushing forward this anti-life bill.

In response, Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Springfield, Illinois, has issued a public decree communicating to his priests that all Illinois Catholic lawmakers who voted for the state’s new Reproductive Health Act, or for an earlier 2017 bill that legalized taxpayer funding of abortions, should not present themselves to receive Holy Communion in the Diocese of Springfield “without first being reconciled to Christ and the Church.” The decree, and an accompanying letter, were mailed earlier in the week to all of the Catholic lawmakers who voted in favor of the bills. CA NY electoral

2020 problems by Ramirez

BIDEN: Too middle ground – Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) made one thing clear this past weekend at the California Democratic Party state convention: So-called middle ground candidates like Joe Biden aren’t progressive enough and are too willing to play nice with Republicans.

Noah Rothman (Commentary Magazine) offers a much more important reason to keep Joe Biden out of the White House:

“There may be no greater incongruity in American politics than that between the unilateral powers vested in the president on matters related to foreign affairs and how little the electorate cares about foreign affairs. Absent an acute crisis, events on the world stage just aren’t foremost on American minds. Joe Biden’s ascension to the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination would alter that equation, in part because he spent over a decade as the ranking member and then chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. But Biden’s efforts to favorably contrast himself with the Trump administration on foreign policy will be complicated by his record of astoundingly bad judgment.”

NRA tweet

GILLIBRAND: The NRA responded to Gillibrand’s attack by posting a letter she wrote to them in 2008. In 2009, she bragged about her 100% A rating from the NRA and said she kept two guns under her bed. In 2018, she said she is now embarrassed by her previous views on gun rights.

MOULTON: Don’t ask me. I never heard of him either. – He’s no different than the rest. And he’s polling at less than 1%. [:59]

SWALWELL: He’s a pathetic loser – But hey, he can change a diaper!  So clearly, he should be POTUS! Right?! Right?!

BUTTIGIEG: He’s real sorry about being a white male, which is more than can be said for Bernie “If you write a best seller, you can be a millionaire too” Sanders.

D-DAY: 75th anniversaryOn June 6, 1944, Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy in northern France. Their goal: to liberate Western Europe from Nazi tyranny. From a distance, it might seem that victory was pre-ordained, but no one felt that way at the time. British military historian Peter Caddick-Adams tells the incredible story of what happened on that monumental day. [5:37]

D-DAY: 75th anniversary Only one U.S. president has ever failed to publicly honor the sacrifices made on June 6, 1944. It was not Barack Obama. [2:42]
