2020_02 08 nothing can stop you

PELOSI RIPS: [1:02] – Some on the Left cheered San Fran Nan for her “warrior” move, saying she was overcome with emotion.

Actually … she pre-ripped the paper, so she wouldn’t fluff her rude stunt moment.

2020_02 08 Trump's Turn to Rip

TRUMP: The Democrat’s impeachment fraud was a total win for our side. Trump’s approval rating at Gallup is at its highest ever.

IMPEACHMENT: [9:10] “Fairness.” Senator Tim Scott’s bold and elegant talk about fairness in the impeachment process.

NEW WAY FORWARD ACT: [6:23]Democrats want felonious immigrants/illegals to be protected from deportation.

2020_02 08 candida

ALZHEIMER HOPES: C. albicans is the most common cause of fungal infections in humans, as well as the most extensively studied fungal pathogen that affects people. New research shows that the fungus can enter the brain, trigger an inflammatory response, and impair memory in mice. Importantly, the infection leads to the formation of abnormal structures in the brain, and these share similarities with amyloid plaques — a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease.

A recent study by MIT found a low-pitched buzz-like sound and strobe lights can be used to replicate brain waves impeded by Alzheimer’s, which improved cognitive function and helped remove plaque in mice displaying symptoms of the disease. The approach hasn’t been tested in humans yet, but if it’s possible to copy these results, it might turn into a drug-free, inexpensive way to treat this condition.

2020_02 08 Patrick Moore climate denier

CLIMATE: I saw a tweet exchange in which one person said climate change was scaring the crap out of her. The respondent suggested she learn about it and stop letting a political lie scare her. She replied, “I have a PhD in Astrophysics. Not sure how more learning would make a difference.”

It got me wondering whether Astrophysics has anything to do with climate science. Turns out, it doesn’t.

Astrophysics is a branch of astronomy. Astrophysicists study and analyze the physical interactions between objects in the Universe. The properties of black holes, stars, galaxies and other large structures in the cosmos are studied by those with a Ph.D. in astrophysics.”

Hmmm. It’s as unrelated to Climatology and therefore just as much beside the point as Bill Nye’s Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

2020_02 08 canard

WORD NERD: CANARD, noun, kuh-NARD – A fancy way to say FAKE NEWS. Formally, a false or unfounded report or story, a fabricated report, a groundless rumor or belief.

ALSO, a funny looking airplane with horizontal stabilizing and control surfaces in front, as well as the name for said funny looking appurtenances.

2020_02 08 power

GRAMMY NOTES: During the recent blizzard, a telephone pole at the base of our street fell over, taking all the electricity to our neighborhood with it. For 15 hours. Because of my MCS, our house is all electric.

No cars could get off the street, so Dearest walked downtown to get us some hot Chinese. We got out all the flashlights, bundled up, ate, then played board games and cards until it got too cold. Then we burrowed under all the blankets we own to wait it out. Fortunately, I’m a quilter, so we own a lot of blankets!

We are deeply grateful to the men who endured a full night’s work in the brutal cold to get a new pole erected and install all new wiring. God bless you, guys!

We are a lot less grateful to NYSEG who apparently decided to go with crisis management, rather than common sense maintenance on their poles for our small development (about 50 houses). This is the third one that’s fallen over this year.

  1. tRippin’ Nancy – Post cover is great contrast, isn’t it?

I saw a clip of her sad, sour puss going on about how Trump is “impeached forever.” Trying to save her little stunt from historical obscurity. Won’t work. Trump Triumphant is all anyone will remember.

Some of these Dems are so ignorant and ill-informed they are actual believers in their party’s lies, really think Trump is always lying, and is bad for the country. Like the guy who walked out on the SotU claiming it was all “lies.” I can’t help but think that Pelosi is sharper than that. As Trump, during the SotU, was laying out one fact after another about America’s success, she knew perfectly well that he was right in every regard, but she just could not rise above the derangement of Trump hate, not for America’s sake, not for her party’s sake, not for whatever may be left of her own soul’s sake.

Seems t’ me there’s a big difference between doing wrong (evil) but not being aware of it being wrong (error) on the one side, and on the other is continuing to do that which you know is evil (sin). Rots away from the inside. That’s how I view Nancy’s current condition. With such cognitive and moral dissonance, one eventually reaches complete spiritual insanity (iniquity), the point of no return. As PDJT might say, “sad.”

Astrophysics actually has everything to do with climate change, per what I’ve read. I think the problem many scientists have is not being able to see beyond their own narrow field. Let me try to give it the simple-explanation treatment. (I think I’ve commented on this on here before, but anyway…)

Global cooling or heating depends on the amount of cloud cover. The main instigator of cloud cover is cosmic rays from space. The biggest local source of cosmic rays is that big ol’ ball of sunshine. When the sun is turbulent (sunspots), we get lots of cosmic rays, more clouds, and cooling. When the sun is quiet, like recent years, less rays, less clouds, and warming.

Even more: In our sun’s orbit through the galaxy, we approach a cluster of stars (don’t ask me which – I’ve forgotten) – close enough that it makes a real difference in our received cosmic radiation. Lots of cloud, lots of cooling, ice age. Regular as clockwork, this orbit takes (IIRC) 250,000 years or so. We’re past the half-way point and headed back.

Not that there aren’t lots of other climate modifiers, including volcanoes and massive forest fires, that can create “mini” ice ages, but that cluster of stars is the one that puts mile-deep ice sheets across northern America.

Astrophysics, climatology, microbiology – we draw lines between subject areas, but real Science is one big muddy ball of interdisciplinary interaction.
    ____

Power lines – not always easy or feasible to place them underground in many places. Compare what time and effort it would take to replace a line on a pole versus digging up a buried line, trying to find where the gopher chewed through it.

That big ice storm of, what, ten years ago? some folks in nearby towns were out for weeks. The power company upped their maintenance a lot after that. Around here, they keep the trees trimmed and replace aging poles, and have the emergency trucks warmed up during bad weather. We rarely lose power for long.

Sorry for length, but I figured one long-long answer is better than three long comments. Whattaya think? 🙂
