We’re up to 149 countries infected.
About 20,000 have tested positive in the U.S. The hottest states are California, New York, and Washington. As of Friday, Tompkins County (where I live in New York) had 11 people who had tested positive, with 280 still awaiting test results.
The FDA has fast tracked approval for American manufacturers to re-purpose their factories to produce needed products – e.g., Hanes is making masks, another company (I didn’t recognize the name) is making alcohol, GM and Ford are making ventilators, Apple is donating 2 million industrial masks that have been authorized for medical use.
They have expanded Tele-Health, so more people can consult a doctor online.
Testing for the Chinese Coronavirus is expanding tremendously. If you don’t have symptoms, don’t ask for a test. People who are sick need the kits and health care workers need the masks, gloves and gowns that get used up when someone comes in for a test. Also delay elective medical and dental procedures, which also use up medical supplies for more urgent purposes.
A bunch of stuff has been suspended, including certain foreclosures, evictions, and standardized educational testing. If you’re having trouble paying your mortgage, call your lender.
A 90-year-old woman in Washington is recovering from the virus and wanted everyone to know there’s hope even for the high risk people.
