AUTISM: Leucovorin has proven to be effective in off-label use for speech-related deficits in children with autism. Leucovorin functions similarly to folic acid, helping to restore folate levels in patients who may have difficulty absorbing or using it. It is currently labeled to treat folate-deficiency anemia and to reduce the toxic effects of high-dose methotrexate cancer treatments. The FDA will be adding autism to labeled uses.
