AMERICAN HISTORY: On January 29, 1950, Senator Henry Clay drafted the “Compromise of 1850” to defuse tensions over which of the territories won during the Mexican–American War would allow slavery. It succeeded in delaying the American Civil War until 1861.

EVERYDAY HEROES: James Harrison had a rare antibody in his blood that could prevent Rh disease from killing unborn babies. Every few weeks, James spent 90 minutes donating his life-saving plasma. His 1,173 donations saved an estimated 2.4 million babies. When people called him a hero, he shrugged it off. “I’m in a safe room, donating blood,” he said. “They give me a cup of coffee and something to nibble on. And then I just go on my way. No problem, no hardship.” The heroic part wasn’t that he showed up and did it. The heroic part was that he afraid of needles and did it anyway.
ICE: On Dec. 17, a Biden judge ruled that ICE had violated the First and Fourth Amendment rights of several anti-ICE activists, including a Minnesota woman and a Somali-American who were both accused of attacking federal agents. On Monday, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the ruling, saying the anti-ICE radicals had not been peaceful protesters.
Meta has started blocking its users from sharing links to “ICE List”, a website that has compiled the names of what it claims are Department of Homeland Security employees.
