Ash Wednesday

DAILY PRAYER: Dear Lord, Create in us clean hearts and renew in us right spirits. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.

AMERICAN HISTORY: On February 18, 1885, Huckleberry Finn hit bookstores. And on February 18, 1930, Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH: “Everyone hated the idea of being a slave but few had any qualms about enslaving others. Slavery was just not an issue, not even among intellectuals, much less among political leaders, until the 18th century – and then it was an issue only in Western civilization.

Among those who turned against slavery in the 18th century were George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry and other American leaders. You could research all of the 18th century Africa or Asia or the Middle East without finding any comparable rejection of slavery there. But who is singled out for scathing criticism today? American leaders of the 18th century.” – Thomas Sowell

LENTEN MEDITATION: CLICK https://www.youtube.com/shorts/TyuqFtx4q3U [1:49] talks about what to do when bad stuff happens to you.

MUNICH and RUBIO: [29:13] – Last Saturday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a foreign policy speech at the Munich Security Conference in which he outlined President Donald Trump’s vision for a revitalized transatlantic alliance that is rooted in sovereignty, shared heritage, and renewed Western strength. The address earned a standing ovation from attendees. His speech is the first 22 minutes; afterwards are comments and questions. The speech is absolutely worth your time.

MUNICH and AOC: [16:46] – And then there was the bartender.

OLYMPICS: [7:00] – Ice Dancing is one of my favorite events. France took the gold after this sublime long program.

PRAYER for OUR NATION: Heavenly Father, we come before You with humbled hearts, seeking Your face for our nation. We recognize that we have strayed from Your ways, and we earnestly ask for Your forgiveness. We pray for a turning of hearts towards righteousness and truth. May Your divine intervention bring healing to our land, restoring peace and unity among all people. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

SCHUMER SHUTDOWN 2.0: Gary Varvel writes, “A week before the State of the Union, Senator Chuck Schumer decided the most effective rebuttal isn’t a better argument — it’s a pair of scissors. If you can’t counter the message, just cut the mic. By pushing a partial government shutdown at the most politically convenient moment, Schumer seems less interested in governing and more interested in stage-managing silence. Apparently, when Donald Trump prepares to address the nation, the opposition’s plan is simple: if you don’t like what he’s about to say, make sure nobody can hear it.”

TRANS: On Monday, February 16, 2026, Robert Dorgan (age 56, also known as Roberta Esposito) opened fire at high school boys’ hockey game at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Three people were killed, including the shooter’s ex-wife, one of their sons, and the shooter. Three others were injured and hospitalized in critical condition (including other family members). A good Samaritan (fellow spectator) intervened to help subdue or stop the shooter, contributing to ending the incident quickly. Multiple weapons were recovered at the scene.
