GRAMMY NOTES: Back when Saddam Hussein invaded Iraq, the bottom fell out of the building industry. As an architect, my husband and his colleagues felt it first, as investors suddenly dropped out of a large, planned project. In a single day, the firm went from having the next year booked up to having about 2 weeks worth of work left to finish up the previous project. Anybody who wasn’t working on that project was laid off immediately.
