1A: Earlier this week, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit handed down a historic ruling when it decided a Texas schoolteacher does have the constitutional right to pray on school grounds and that her principal clearly violated established law when he ordered her to stop.
The road to Barber v. Rounds began in September 2023, when teacher Staci Barber’s principal, Bryan Scott Rounds, announced that teachers were not allowed to pray at the flag pole outside Cardiff Junior High in the Katy Independent School District in Texas.
For years, school administrators around the nation have treated any visible expression of religion by a school employee as constitutionally suspect. This ruling makes clear they have been wrong.
