EXCESS DEATHS: So far this year, there have been 7,300 excess deaths from heat in France and nearly 10,000 in Germany. In both countries, the use of air conditions is regulated and sometimes banned for aesthetic and/or environmental reasons.

On a personal note … I once knew a mom who had had four boys very close together. The couple had one vehicle, so she was mostly stuck at home all day, every day. When she reached the end of her raggedy, frayed rope, instead of harming herself or the kids, she called 911 on herself. Then she unlocked the door, curled up in a fetal position with her littlest held tightly in her arms, and waited for help … which arrived and stayed and came back a couple times a week until she was in a better place.
MEDIA: After the New York Times published a piece falsely claiming Kai Spears was present at the scene of a deadly shooting, the former University of Alabama basketball player sued. An Alabama jury found the Times liable for defamation and awarded Spears $9.25 million in damages. Spears says he hopes the verdict will help protect people like him in the future.

MINNESOTA: Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has sued Texas Gov. Greg Abbott hoping to force Texas to send ICE agent Christian Castro to Minnesota to face assault and false-reporting charges.
ODs: Fentanyl deaths dropped 22% – from 48,913 in 2024 to 38,084 in 2025 – while total drug overdose deaths fell 14%. The Trump administrations says the decline is evidence his border and counter-narcotics policies are working.
PSA: Thirty-two states have now reported cases of salmonella linked to jalapeños from a farm in Sinaloa, Mexico, and distributed to the United States earlier in the year. Stores that sold the peppers and products containing them include Kroger, Target, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods Market. No deaths have been reported.
FYI: Microwaves do not kill pathogens like E. coli and Salmonella. Heat does. Any type of cooking method will do the job provided temperatures reach at least 165°F throughout the food.
WHITE HOUSE: Just hours before lower-court rulings were set to halt aboveground construction on the ballroom, Chief Justice John Roberts issued an order allowing it to continue.

Lindsey Clancy is a sad case, but not the first or the last of this type of madness. A North Dakota mother killed two of her children and nearly killed another on Aug 6.
