“Let Me fill in your day planner.”

2015_03 31 Cathedral of light

“Let Me fill in your day planner” was God’s theme for my prayer-time meditation this morning. Then, I logged on and found an email from my daughter with an enthusiastic link to this blog:

ANOTHER DAVID V. GOLIATH; SAME RESULT

Yesterday was such a beautiful day. SD had some business in town so DW and I were charged with keeping Isabel and Olivia for most of the day. We took them to lunch, then to a park to burn off some of that excess energy. It was the warmest day so far this year, high in the upper 70’s, blue sky and a nice southerly breeze. I didn’t want the day to end because God signaled the annual renewal of life after a long cold spell.

After the children went home I fired up the Univac and what do I see? The government-supported blitzkreig had not only crushed Mike Pence in Indiana, but also Asa Hutchinson in Arkansas. All the republicans cut and ran from the phony charge of sexual discrimination and fell all over themselves to placate the UDSCMA (Union of Dick Smokers and Carpet Munchers of America). For only being 2-3% of the population they sure get a lot of special privileges.

Then an article caught my eye about the Gay Nazi Brigade coming down on a mom-and-pop pizzeria for saying they would serve gays, but not cater homosexual weddings. Excuse me? Who the hell serves PIZZA at a wedding reception? It didn’t matter. It was all the excuse they needed to vent their wrath on a simple business couple.

They got so much hate directed at them, they were forced to close and perhaps never reopen. Ah, but never underestimate pissed-off Christians. Here’s the timeline:

Indiana’s ‘Memories Pizza’ FORCED TO SHUT DOWN Due to Threats After Gay Comments
A Walkerton, Indiana pizza shop told an Indiana news channel they would not provide pizzas at a gay wedding.

The O’Connor family said they were not discriminating against anyone – they just wouldn’t cater at a gay wedding.

Kevin O’Connor tells TMZ he’s had to temporarily close his business after he told a reporter he would refuse to cater a gay wedding under Indiana’s new Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

ADDED by CtH:

TBT Memories Pizza

O’Connor says he was immediately flooded by threatening phone calls, and social media postings.
A GoFundMe page was set up on Tuesday to help out the restaurant owners.
Already $23,000 has been raised online for the family.

ONE ANGRY, MAN-HATING BUTCH IS BEHIND THE WHOLE THING
ANGRY CHRISTIAN HATING LESBIAN: Coach Suspended After Threatening to Burn Down Christian Pizzeria

Posted on April 1, 2015

This teacher and coach has been suspended after threatening to burn down the Christian pizzeria in Indiana that said they wouldn’t cater a gay wedding.

The head coach of an Indiana high school girl’s golf team has been suspended after apparently threatening to burn down a Christian-owned pizzeria.

Jess Dooley, a coach at Concord High School of Elkhart, Indiana allegedly struck out at the owner of Memories Pizza in Walkerton, IN who made news on Tuesday by saying that she would not cater a wedding if a gay couple tried to hire her for the job, after the state passed its own Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

“We are a Christian establishment,” pizza shop owner told the media.
On the heels of the news from the pizza shop, coach Dooley allegedly took to Twitter to say, “Who’s going to Walkerton, IN to burn down #memoriespizza w me? Agree with #FreedomofReligion bill? “That’s a lifestyle they CHOOSE” Ignorant.”

Not long after the Tweet was posted, the entire Twitter account under Dooley’s Twitter handle “@dooley_11″ was deleted.

By Wednesday, the school had reported that the coach was suspended pending an investigation of her comments.

Meet Private Rowan Windham!

Grab a tissue! This was a super happy day for Rowan, but if you don’t shed a tear or two reading his mom’s blog, then you need to check your pulse.

2015_03 28 Private Rowan

“Yesterday, I got to be a part of something awesome. We enlisted an 8 year old boy, suffering from a rare and life-threatening disorder, into the Texas Army National Guard. His nurse, is one of our guardsmen, and found out that being a Soldier was his dream. I was blessed to be a part of the group of people who planned the day and put all of the pieces together. This little boy was incredible and touched the hearts of everyone he met that day. His family were the most wonderful people. It is hard to describe in words what it meant to be a part of the whole thing. But it was amazing – the coolest and best thing I have done in my 9 years in the Army. My husband and son drove down to Austin to be a part of the day, and I got to help escort the family around for the day.” – Captain Martha C. Nigrelle

Rowan’s Mom’s Blog has the most pics and stories
http://www.rowansstory.blogspot.com/

“It was so humbling and truly appreciated. Brian and I commented how apparent it was that none of these men were doing this for themselves, or for any gain other than blessing Rowan. You could tell they were thankful and grateful for the opportunity to do this for us. I overheard multiple soldiers and officers telling SGT Hixson “thank you for bringing Rowan to our attention”, and telling their Superiors “thank you for putting this together”, or” thank you for letting us be a part of this”. They were all truly happy to be there. I have never been so proud to be an American in my life. It was just beyond perfect.” – Rowan’s mom

ON BOWLING FUNDRAISERS

There are fundraisers and then there are fundraisers. Let me tell you about two that are about as diametrically opposed as is possible.
First is a bowling fundraiser started by butt-ugly feminist-lesbian-frustrated she can’t get laid liberal stalwart Sally Kohn.

CNN’s Sally Kohn Sets Up Bowling for Abortion Fundraiser
CNN host Sally Kohn had an important PSA for her Twitter followers yesterday.

YOU GUYS!!! I’m bowling for abortion access. Donate now.
— Sally Kohn (@sallykohn) March 24, 2015
I’m bowling because I believe that everyone should have access to the abortions they need, regardless of how much money they have.

Because of unfair and unnecessary laws, safe and legal abortions can be out of reach of those who don’t have the money to pay for them. I don’t think that’s right, so I’m doing something about it. I’m bowling to break down barriers to abortion access.

Tempting. Yet, instead of joining her, many social media users responded in disgust.
But my hands down favorite had to be this message from The Blaze’s Dana Loesch, in which she used Kohn’s pro-abortion promotion to donate to the National Right to Life organization.

Just made a $100 donation in honor of @sallykohn to @nrlc . #DonateForSally #ProBaby — Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) March 24, 2015

http://townhall.com/tipsheet/cortneyobrien/2015/03/25/sally-kohn-asks-people-to-help-her-fund-abortion-n1976024

The other fundraiser was held March 14 for the bravest 6 year old I know, my grandson, Tyler.
It was well attended, and the total amount raised from the bowling, 50-50 raffle, and the silent auctions was not made public. He’s had good days and bad days, which I will go into at another time. Both of my daughters were there, as were their mothers. D#2’s mom I hadn’t seen since about 1985. She looks old.
This is Tyler, mom and grandma

DW AND I WERE THERE. THIS IS MY OLDEST DAUGHTERS’ DAUGHTER. SHE’S 13 AND EATS EVERYTHING IN SIGHT. HER METABOLISM MUST BE VERY HIGH BECAUSE SHE IS ONLY GROWING TALLER.

One fundraiser was to celebrate the slaughter of innocents, the other to help a precious child of God fight a deadly disease.

HAPPY MONDAY!

Had a really nice weekend. Went to see Miss Isabel in her school’s production of the Wizard of Oz. Those kids put an awful lot of work into it, as the production lasted for more than 90 minutes. Many of the costumes and scenery were borrowed from two local theater companies. The boy who played the Cowardly Lion slipped in a couple ad libs and was really funny. I got a chance to talk to him after the performance and complemented him on his sense of comedic timing and told him he could do anything he dreamed of if he worked hard enough for it. We met some of SIL’s family that we hadn’t before and had a nice lunch at Portillo’s with everybody before coming home.

I went to work this morning, as usual, and it was just starting to snow a bit when I left. Minutes later, the streets were covered with snow. I friended BigFurHat from IOTW Reports on FB yesterday and first thing this morning he was condemning Fat Al Gore to Global Warming Hell as he shoveled three inches of the white stuff. Guess Old Man Winter isn’t quite done with us yet.

A SAINT PATRICK’S DAY MEMORY

Many years ago, after my granddad retired, it didn’t take long being under granny’s foot when she tried to do her housework she issued an ultimatum… get a part time job or she’d make his life even more miserable than she already did. Being a fan of drinking beer, he got a job part-time tending bar at a tavern named Kelly Malone’s. Typical neighborhood place. Juke box, pool tables, a bowling machine and there was a moose head high on the wall, about 12-15 feet. St Patrick’s Day was like Christmas, New Years and the Fourth of July all rolled into one. The free corned beef and green beer flowed. It wasn’t a good day unless the local constabulary had to intervene at some point.

The second holiday he worked there he came home and said ‘You won’t believe what happened.’

‘What?’

‘Somebody got that damn moosehead down off the wall and stole it.’

It must have gotten really drunk outside. Imagine sobering up and finding a nasty,moth-eaten head in your living room and you can’t remember how it got there. Beer has been making people act stupidly for thousands of years.

Mailing my fermented foods

Mama Buzz expressed an interest in trying out my ferments, which led to pondering and discussion about how to safely ship foods that, if left at room temperature for any length of time, will create CO2.

My experimental solution was to screw canning rings over 4 layers of plastic wrap. I figured the wrap could bulge, or even break, if gas built up, sparing the glass jar from breakage.  Mama Buzz received the box and said, “nice job with ferments…plastic wrap was a good idea, they are all bulging but not broken.” Yay!

2015_03 14 Ferments arrived safely

Mama Buzz asked for a zippy bag for each jar to confine any leaked food.   This turned out to be an excellent idea, since some of the jars dribbled a bit. Those rings are designed to hold the cap on, not make a seal.  Plus I jammed 4 layers of plastic wrap in the screw spaces. It would be surprising if there had not been some dribbling.

The jars then got wrapped in mini bubble pack. I’ve shipped my canned fruits this way many times without any problem. Nine of these size jars fits into the large Flat Rate Priority box, which costs $17.90 to ship. There is some space top, bottom and on the sides, so I always put more bubble pack all around and have never had a jar break during shipping.

I did have one jar split open one time, but that was my own dumb fault.  I sent a jar of my home-made mouthwash (essential oil hydrosol) and forgot to leave 1″ headroom.  It froze in shipping, which split (but did not shatter) the jar and leaked some wet into the box.  Hence, Mama Buzz’s wisdom-borne-of-experience regarding zippy bags. 🙂

THANK YOU ALL

Thank you all. First, for your continued prayers for my grandson. I know in my heart he’ll beat this cancer thing. I just know it.

Second, thank you for sharing some of your childhood memories. Being an exhibitor, be it as an arts and crafts fair, flea market, antique show, or toy show takes an awful lot of work. You need to make/find merchandise to sell, tag it, pack it, transport, set tables up, stay in your selling space all day and re-pack everything that didn’t sell and haul it home. Sometimes you make a profit, sometimes you don’t. What with the popularity of the internet people are finding other means to buy what they’re looking for. The reason I got into selling toys is that it was something fun (most of the time),I met a lot of dealers with much knowledge to impart that you would never get from a book, and mostly seeing the smiles on peoples’ faces when they see something that once brought them great joy during an innocent and carefree youth. I always maintained,if you can’t have fun selling toys, why are you doing it? I would hear lots of stories like those you posted yesterday about a favorite doll, truck or game. Therein lies the value in them. It’s a happy part of our past and we need to hang on to it in today’s world. If you don’t mind,I’d like to do a post from time to time about these wonderful things and maybe give you some information you didn’t have before. I really enjoy it because I never completely grew up at heart.

ON WITH THE NASTINESS!!!!!

Rockton boy coping with rare cancer

Posted: Monday, March 9, 2015 4:00 pm

By Hillary Gavan hgavan@beloitdailynews.com | 0 comments

ROCKTON — Friends are the best medicine for 6-year-old Tyler Levine. Despite undergoing chemotherapy, the first grader attends Rockton Grade School and Skypes with his friends when he’s in the hospital.

“For the most part, you wouldn’t know what he’s going through because of how high his spirits remain, especially when he’s around other kids,” his mom Alisha Levine said. “He’s a good kid, and people remark all the time how well he’s doing. He’s showing great courage, bravery and strength.”

Tyler is undergoing treatment for a rare former of cancer called peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET), also known as Ewing’s sarcoma. Alisha said everyone at Rockton Grade School has been extremely supportive, especially Tyler’s teacher Amy Stevens, Principal Glen Terry, school social worker Rebecca Rathe and other children and parents.

Tyler has a special room at school where he can rest, and teacher’s aide Laurie Yost sits with him. His friends at his Roscoe YMCA aftercare made him a quilt and have signed their names to it to show support.

Tyler’s mom Alisha is a well-known Zumba instructor from Roscoe who works at State Farm Insurance in Rockford for Julie Weaver. Tyler’s father is Jason Levine of Loves Park, who works at Rockford Health System.

Alisha describes Tyler as “a perfectly healthy, normal and happy 6-year-old.” All boy, Tyler loves dragons, dinosaurs, sports, video games and is a “strategist” at Monopoly.

It was during a bath on Dec. 11 that Alisha first noticed Tyler’s neck was swollen. Within a week he had undergone a biopsy for the mass and was put in a neck brace. The mass, pressing on his spine, had crushed a femoral artery and doctors were concerned about the stability of his neck.

By New Year’s Eve, Tyler’s parents learned the mass was a fast-growing primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) or Ewing’s sarcoma.

Ewing sarcoma is a cancer that starts in the bones or soft tissues. The condition occurs mostly in children age 10 to 20. Approximately 200 new cases of this type of tumor are diagnosed in the United States each year. More than two-thirds of children with the localized disease become long-term survivors, according to Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers.

Fortunately, Alisha said Tyler’s PNET is localized and is shrinking thanks to a 30-week chemotherapy regimen. Tyler, who has a port installed in one of his veins, undergoes chemotherapy treatments at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Tyler receives chemotherapy every two weeks, alternating between a 2-day cycle and a 6-day cycle.

His mother explained the next step in Tyler’s treatment is what is referred to as “local intervention,” either radiation or surgery scheduled to begin the last week of March. After Tyler undergoes additional scans, his parents will meet with his medical team at Lurie to determine which option will be best for him. Although it’s unlikely the tumor will be completely gone, so far it’s getting smaller.

Tyler and his mom are trying to make the best of the situation, keeping life as normal as possible. Tyler plays video games and Legos in the playroom. Alisha tries to maintain balance and her physical fitness through yoga and other workouts when staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

However, there are still challenges for Tyler such as nausea, fatigue and hair loss and low blood counts, which lowers his body’s ability to fight infection. Alisha said Tyler’s undergone three blood transfusions so far. Tyler also receives a booster shot after each treatment cycle to help boost his blood counts. If his temperature gets too high, his parents have to call his oncology team and take him to the emergency room.

After Tyler beats his initial battle he will have to get an echocardiogram once a year for the rest of his life to monitor for any potential long-term effects from his chemotherapy.

Although Tyler is covered by his dad’s health insurance, his parents are dealing with missed time at work, prescription co-pays, gas and food costs associated with travel to the hospital.

Alisha said she’s been amazed with the depth and swiftness of support the family has received. Many people have dropped meals off at her home, others have given donations or sent Tyler gifts such as a teddy bear he recently received from an anonymous donor.

Bowling event scheduled to benefit Tyler

A Tough for Tyler Moonlight Bowl event is being held Saturday, March 14 at Don Carter Lanes, 4007 E. State St., Rockford. The event will benefit Tyler Levine, a 6-year-old battling Ewing Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer.

The cost is $15 each or $30 per couple. It includes three games of bowling and shoe rental. Check-in is at 4 p.m., with a start time at 4:30 p.m.

Beloit Regional Hospice

Although lanes are still available, those who don’t wish to bowl are invited to come and show their support for Tyler. Donations are suggested, and pizza will be $10 for those not bowling.

There will be silent auctions and a 50-50 raffle. Some of the silent auction items include tickets to a John Cougar Mellencamp concert and an Ice Hogs gift basket. There are gift cards from Green Fire, Wired Cafe in Rockford, the Rockton Dairy Haus and more.

Tyler Levine’s mom is selling “Tough for Tyler” T-shirts. They are $20, with more than half of the proceeds going to help the family. Tyler’s uncle David Rogers made the logo for the shirt.

People can e-mail toughfortyler@gmail.com for any information on the event, potential donations or to purchase a T-shirt.

Anyone who would like to follow Tyler’s story can go to http://www.caringbridge.org under “Tyler Levine” or subscribe to the “Tough for Tyler” Facebook page.

People can also submit donations to the GoFundMe account at http://www.gofundme.com/b8zn2o called “Tyler’s Medical Fund.”

I WANT TO PERSONALLY THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND YOUR SUPPORT.
