Unemployment Rates – Clinton, Bush, Obama

This is the graphic Red Pill was asking for. I’d like to update it and reformat it. Anyone care to get me the data? I did not make the graphs I used and every time I look at them, I have to figure out all over again that it’s the x-axis, not the y-axis, that has the unemployment rates. I think it’s confusing. I haven’t figure out how to make a clear, quick to comprehend graphic of this data, but I think it would be compelling and very useful for 2012 to have one. I’d just rather put my available brain cells and time into the graphic itself, not hunting down the data.

And thanks again, Pill, for being so specific in your request. I am sometimes blown away by how much STUFF I’ve created. My archives is so huge-mongous, I’d never have found this if you had not said precisely what you wanted.

    Look at the unemployment data from the last 20 years (start here and adjust time period to look at 1991-2011).

    Give “credit” to the party which controlled 2 or more of the following three:
    1) Presidency
    2) House
    3) Senate

    You will find that when the Republicans controlled 2 or 3, the average unemployment rate was 5.0, and when the Democrats controlled 2 or 3, the average unemployment rate was 7.3.

    Over the last two decades, when Democrats have been in control, unemployment has been nearly 50% higher than when Republicans have been in control.

    Are you taking into consideration any lags from policies? For example, how does it change when compared ot the Big Government spending?

    I have my own theories on the subject, namely the big government spending takes up the capital needed for private investment, which then leads to a decrease in the employment rates. It is only one part of the bigger picture that leads to stagflation.
