      I actually got lucky on this. I was taken out of Judy Biggert land and put into Peter Roskam’s district. I have know Roskam since he first ran for school board. Though he was a bit over the top on school issues, he has the kind of passion I want and do not have to worry that his votes will be rino.

        Please pray the judge deciding on NY districts goes with the non-partisan, sensible map that lumps people by where they live. Dearest says the proposed map looks really sensible.

      Punch above their weight? … google google … Oh, it’s a boxing term for going up against fighters who are bigger than you are.

      Obama seems to be using it as a compliment, that these small countries perform successfully like larger countries. But from my googling, it seems like it’s more often used in one of these contexts:

      “Jeff was punching above his weight when he was dating Liz. She’s way too hot for him.”

      “You’re only a freshman, so take an intro class. Don’t try to punch above your weight.”

    A little background for you;Daley sold the rights to the city’s parking meters a few years ago to a French company for about a billion dollars.He claimed this would be the city’s “rainy day fund” for at least 10 years.The money was gone in 6 months.Since then,ticketed drivers have to pay,even if they prove the meters are broken.Mayor Tiny Dancer got the state to withhold tax refunds from people who owed the city money,and rates are going up next month from $6.75/hour to $7.50.I have not driven to Chicago in many years and have no intention of doing so.

      And, the city is working with the state and deducting any outstanding tickets, plus fees, from state income tax refunds.
      Isn’t that illegal?
      Not in Crook County!
      They will steal it any way they can.
      Don’t get me started on how many thousands in “fees” my son had to pay on his Chicago condo. I told him not to buy in the city. But I am just a dumb Mom. What do I know?

      Just a teensy rant, Pete. And only cuz it’s one of my pet peeves and an extremely common error. “Irregardless” is not a word. ir and less both mean not. The correct words are either irrespective (without respect to) or regardless (without regard for).

          ROFLL … ew. Reminds me of a time when I was lead singer in a small church where the guitarist’s music “stand” was made out of the same logs the benches were. Very rustic, cute chapel, even the altar was logs. Well the stand had no legs. It was just a log cut laterally, like a french bean, with a chunk left at the bottom of the slant to keep the pages from falling off. It sat on the front row bench so the “choir” such as we were, also sat there and the front row didn’t get used unless the rest of the seats were packed. So one Sunday when it was really crowded and everyone stood except me and the guitarist, because I had to turn the pages for him, the person right in front of me … you guessed it … during a song. Like I mean … I HAD to inhale! You know that scene in Shrek where Donkey says “I got some in my mouth and everything.”

    Dearest got to meet the two GOP candidates for the New York nomination to compete against Gillibrand for U.S. Senate. He liked them both, but agrees with this guy that Wendy Long has a much better shot at beating Gillibrand.

    I like this statement by Long: “the National Journal released its Congressional vote ratings for 2011, and guess who is tied for #1 as the most liberal Senator in the entire United States Senate? Our former moderate upstate Congresswoman, Kirsten Gillibrand, who after getting her new job on the other side of Capitol Hill apparently went into a political witness protection program and emerged as the most doctrinaire liberal in the Senate.”

    That rooster cartoon at the top reminds me of one of the worst professors I had in college. When his big lecture class (250+) all bombed an exam, he blamed us for not studying. The next exam, we had all busted our butts, fearful of flunking the stupid course. But when we all did really well, he said he had made the exam too easy.

    I was in a particularly good position to judge this jackass, because I was a second semester senior majoring in the subject for which this particular class was a 100 level introductory class. I had not been able to fit it into my schedule before this point but had to have it to graduate.

    However, I’d taken 200 level classes on the same material, so was mostly just bored out of my gourd. The professor was SO BAD that some of the kids I knew who were just taking it to fulfill a breadth requirement were doing very poorly and really stressing about actually failing, messing up their GPAs, losing scholarships, delaying graduation … all because the professor was too busy banging his graduate student and flitting around to rich people’s parties raising money for his pet project to actually TEACH.

    I’m not exaggerating. Like I said, I was a major in this department. I had every reason to know what the man was and was not doing with his time. And I’m seeing the same thing here with Barky … a lazy, incompetent, self-absorbed jackass who blames others when they do poorly, then takes credit when they succeed.

      Just today Rush talked about the Nubian Nightmare crowing about US oil production increasing and imports decreasing.The truth is oil exploration on federal land has dropped 40% under his reign.The oil we produce today comes largely from leases Bush approved and the rest is from private land he can’t get his fingers on.
