This is the result of teaching no longer being a profession. It is now an adventure in babysitting, with even those going in with the best intentions quickly learning that you cannot teach kids who are not willing or ready to learn.
But, highly intelligent people who once went into teaching are choosing careers where they are more respected for their brains. Until the teaching profession is treated like a business, with financial rewards for performance instead of tenure, the educational system will continue to spiral.
I think we should start teachers at higher salaries to entice better quality, quickly weed out those who are inept, and totally get rid of tenure, or yearly pay scale advances that have nothing to do with how well one teaches.
Run it like a business, not a political system.
I have seen too many teachers burn out, but refuse to quit because they like the paycheck. This needs to end.

This is what happens when we “dumb down”the teaching profession! We end up with pond scum.
College athletes get teaching degrees even if they never show up for class. It is really disgusting that they get the first teaching jobs because they once scored a bunch of TD’s and then they try to score with their students.
From the beginning of Title IX, in 1972, men took charge of coaching girls teams. I have never felt this was appropriate. I have seen great female coaches stay at the lower levels and passed over for head coach in favor of men. Hate to sound sexist, but this never set well with me.

We just got one (well, new guts in the old tank) that CLEANS ITSELF. We have very hard water, so the biggest failure is all the minerals that settle out in the tank and clog up the works. The new guts make this odd WHOOOSH at the beginning of the flush. Dearest told me it is shooting a hard stream of water around the bottom, to stir up the minerals and get them back into solution. Neat huh?! 🙂

The think actually works. Our toilet (original to the house) had this really nasty looking crust of brownish stuff in the center of the bowl. It wasn’t body waste, more like the plaque you get on your teeth. And SOLID? OMG. I couldn’t get it off. A friend with a will to conquer finally made a dent in it with careful application of a chisel, but we worried about the porcelain.
Anyway, a few weeks after the Clearwave was on the pipes … it just sits there being quiet, no filters to change or anything. Amazing technology. Anyway, the plaque began to clean ITSELF off. It was SO fun. Like having a house elf come in the dead of night and clean for me. LOL

I was coming out of school one day, going past two girls who were on either side of the door. One stuck her foot out and tripped me. I am a bit of a klutz and tend to watch the ground when I’m walking, so I had not seen the girls, just their shoes in my peripheral vision.
I managed to not fall, but was angry someone would try to harm me for no reason, so I spun around and pulled my foot back to kick the offending leg. I am still puzzled about what happened next … I abruptly decided not to kick this mean girl’s leg, BECAUSE SHE HAD ON WHITE TIGHTS. When I saw white tights, I thought, “I’ll ruin her tights if I kick her.” Weird, huh?
Well, then I looked UP and realized both girls were black. They smirked at me, no doubt thinking I was too much of a Whitey Wuss to repudiate. I have always been glad I didn’t instigate some racial brouhaha. Or get my butt whipped two on one.
But the real reason i didn’t retaliate was imagining my dirty shoe marking up those pretty white tights. I had no idea or thought to the girls’ race(s) when I decided not to kick, only after.

I went to a wedding in that area once. Very posh, big, big money. Bankers and stock brokers. No doubt cost the earth, but the food was awful and the service was worse.
