Traditional Christian values AND today’s news

In 2008, Macomb County, Mich., ordered John Satawa to remove a seasonal Nativity display that his family had maintained since 1945.
From 1945 until 2008, nobody minded. What a shocker … the government tried to stop it only after a protest was received from the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
A federal judge upheld the county’s decision to ban the display, but 6th Circuit appellate judges just reversed that decision, saying it violated both free-speech and equal protection.

Barack Obama has done more to advance the cause of alternative sexual lifestyles in the United States than any other president.
His Department of Justice has decided not to defend the Defense of Marriage Act, which currently is the law of the land.
Obama has declared special days and events to recognize alternative sexual lifestyles.
He’s appointed probably more individuals choosing those lifestyles to public office than any other president.
He’s allowed homosexuals to serve openly in the U.S. military.
But at today’s daily news briefing at the White House, Obama PR spokesman Carney refused to answer repeated questions from multiple reporters about where Obama stands on polygamy.
The questions were sparked by a long article in Time magazine about polygamy, titled “I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do” and featuring the story of Alina, Valeria and Vicki, the “three wives of Joe Darger” in Utah. The article portrays polygamy as having a “rising cultural profile” and says that “once-secretive plural families” are beginning to fight for recognition, much as homosexuals have done over the past decades.

Mike Huckabee wrote on Facebook. “Let’s affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the godly values we espouse by simply showing up and eating at Chick fil-A on Wednesday, August 1.”
Some 600,000 people signed up to celebrate Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day and reports are the restaurants were packed.
In Staurt, Florida, the parking lot was overflowing and cars were wrapped around the building waiting to reach the drive-up window. There were extra attendants outside on foot taking people’s orders before they even got near the window.
In Des Moines, Iowa, there were 300 customers in line at noon. One family said they drove nearly 2 hours to come for lunch.
In Mesa, Arizona, the lines reportedly were so long, it was taking 30 minutes to get a meal. Another Arizona franchise needed police help with traffic control.
In Oklahoma, people patiently stood in line for an hour despite 100 plus degree temperatures.
Chick-fil-A itself did not affiliate itself with the buycott and is refusing to release customer and sales figures for Aug 1.

I would have agreed with his “why not change the marriage law?” until I heard Dennis Prager (who also loves his gay friends and relatives, not sure of his opinion about fast food). He made a very compelling case for maintaining the traditional definition of marriage.

The basic points that stick with me are: one, it’s better for children, which is enough of a reason right there; and two, it opens the door to eliminating marriage altogether, which would be VERY bad for children. This is a slippery slope argument, which we’re seeing happening right now.

If two men or two women, then why not one man and two women or whatever else anyone can come up with? Why not a man and his goat? At this point, you have no reason to even support marriage as an institution, which I wholeheartedly believe is the hard-core Left’s end game in all of this. Think about it. They oppose marriage, yet get all high dudgeon-y about the state not allowing it for same sex couples?

I’m seeing another one of those double standards that exposes the hidden single agenda. And what I see fits with my increasingly firm conviction that the Left serves Satan.

I think Klavan makes a fundamental error in logic when he equates legalizing gay marriage with allowing people to do what they want. There is a huge difference between public policy as expressed in our laws and the freedom to live as you please without government interference.

Society has a compelling need to protect the needs of its most vulnerable citizens over and above the wants of its most capable citizens. I totally support the right of gay couples to live together, make whatever vows or pacts they want without interference from government. I utterly oppose their efforts to redefine marriage, because it puts children and the families they need at risk.

      • Chrissy, I agree with you (and Dennis Prager). What I loved about Andrew’s column is that it was written from the point of view of someone who has no problem in theory with redefining marriage to include same sex couples, yet sees through the antics and bluster of the left to their true totalitarian goals: “But when activists and government officials feel justified in attempting obnoxious boycotts and illegal vendettas against a business like Chick-Fil-A merely because it puts forward traditional beliefs, I am reminded of the deep, vicious and steadfast intolerance of those who claim the mantle of tolerance. I begin to suspect — I do suspect — that the movement for gay marriage is nothing more than an assault on freedom of religion and freedom of expression by other means — yet another ploy of those who believe in an all-powerful state shepherding powerless individuals into leftist nirvana. Truly, I wish to deny my gay friends and colleagues nothing. But the right to express, exercise and live by your faith and conscience is far more essential to human liberty and dignity than the government’s official approval of your relationships. If what gay activists really want is the power to silence those who disapprove of them, then to hell with them.” Bullseye.

1st Amendment-protected freedom of speech and assembly:

I was on the road yesterday, went 15 miles out of my way, and voluntarily spent my time and money to support Chick-Fil-A. I’ve read other stories of people who drove 2 hours just to get to a Chick-Fil-A and show their support.
