Joke by Andy Borowitz went viral

It was SATIRE, written by comedian Andy Borowitz.

PETERSBURG (The Borowitz Report)—Hopes for a positive G20 summit crumbled today as President Obama blurted to Russia’s Vladimir Putin at a joint press appearance, “Everyone here thinks you’re a jackass.” etc. etc.

http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/borowitzreport/2013/09/g20-ends-abruptly-as-obama-calls-putin-a-jackass.html

Obama did not call actually call Putin a jackass. I think it is telling that so many found this joke all too believable. Obama has demonstrated a remarkably thin skin in the past, even lost his temper, spouted off a string of insults and then left important meetings in a huff. He’s also famously flipped his middle finger at people he doesn’t like, demonstrating conclusively that his emotional development stalled back in the 8th grade.

    • I do not follow twitchy but I saw it… and was disgusted.

Tony Abbott is a good person. He is a Catholic man, and he actually believes in the REAL meaning of social justice. This is the man who is a lifesaver (literally because as a young man he pulled someone out of a rip), a firefighting volunteer, and a whole lot of other things. He has been dedicating a week to Aboriginal communities over a very long period of time, actually going to the communities in the north of Australia and helping them in a practical way. He will be appointing Warren Mundine, an aboriginal elder, a former president of the ALP I might add, as his advisor on Aboriginal Affairs. The intent is to get the community off welfare and into jobs. I really like Warren Mundine because he is a good person.

The first thing on the agenda is to get rid of the carbon tax.

I was wondering about your take on having a conservative take power in AU. It is good to know things sound promising down under.
Maybe this will eventually happen in the USA. Sometimes people need the wake up call.
We sure have had one. I just hope people get out of their obamacoma’s and we can overcome all the damage.
        For once, America follows.
        No leaders around here.

        • I have always voted for the Liberal Party.

I know it is hard to understand that the Liberal Party is conservative, but you need to understand what is meant by “Liberal” which is the classical liberal. It means small government, or rather less government over-reach. It means de-regulation where business is concerned. It means better trading conditions especially for terms of trade.

In my life-time there has only been one ALP government that has met that standard and it was under Bob Hawke but not under Paul Keating (although Keating did not make life for business too hard). Hawke-Keating remain the standouts even though in the latter years Keating became a big spender.

With KRUDD-GILLARD-KRUDD the government was chaotic. The biggest damage done to the economy was from the Carbon tax. The next biggest was the mining tax.

I remain against most of the obvious handouts but I do think that there are times when we need to look at helping certain sectors in the economy. This is in part why I agree with the notion of paid parental leave for pregnant mothers. It will help the low income families more than it will help the higher income families.

          • Once I understood the difference between classic liberalism and progressiveness, I stopped using the term liberal … mostly. Sometimes I put it into a graphic for the benefit of my still deluded Catholic Democrat friends, but only to show them how wrong they are to keep supporting Democrats.

            • yes I think you have it.

Maybe you could preface the “liberal” with the word “social” so that it becomes “social liberal”. That way it should imply certain values in regard to social things such as abortion on demand etc. 🙂

Politically, these people are not liberal at all. They are the exact opposite because they believe in government control on everything and a classical liberal believes the opposite.
