CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY

if you are one of the fortunates who don’t have time to spend reading articles on the web,you are lucky indeed. My senses have been accosted by images of mass executions, children being beheaded or crucified, Christian men being hung and woman and girls being raped and sold as sex slaves in the open market. Such is the savagery of ISIS. The Iraqi army is no match for these assassins and we’re no longer there to provide support thanks to our president’s desire to brag about: “I ended the war in Iraq.”

Our president has yielded to public pressure and authorized dropping aid to the Yazidis, who are trapped on a mountain and dying of thirst and hunger as they try to avoid certain doom at the hands of these hellspawn. He also authorized a few pinprick bombings of the bad guys so he can say crap like “I ordered” and “acting on my orders” as he is fond of saying while pretending to care.

I had some lighthearted and offbeat news to post today, but seeing boys my grandsons’ age being blindfolded and crucified has taken my sense of humor away.

Isis’s slaughter of the Yazidi is a new Rwanda happening before our eyes
The Yazidi wish to inform you that tomorrow they will be killed with their families. Actually, it may not be tomorrow. The 40,000 members of Iraq’s most ancient sect, who are currently huddling on the side of Mount Sinjar, might have a bit longer.

Barack Obama Approves Airstrikes on Iraq, Airdrops Aid
Mr. Obama said he ordered the use of U.S. airstrikes if necessary either to stop militants from closing in on the northern city of Erbil or to allow local forces to aid the Yazidis, the religious minority. No U.S. strikes had been conducted by late Thursday, officials said.

He eats lightning and craps thunder….or so he says.

    McCaffrey: “Muddled Thinking” on Iraq

by Keith Koffler on August 8, 2014, 11:31 am

Gen. Barry McCaffrey, like me, wonders what the plan is in Iraq and seems to recognize that, in fact, there is none.

And so, he wonders, following the food drops, what happens when the Iraqis trapped on the mountain by ISIS finish the food?

McCaffrey appeared with an equally skeptical Chuck Todd of MSNBC:

These are political gestures using military power . . . It looks to me like a lot of this is internal U.S. politics to show we’re doing something.

I mean, if you want to use military power, you have to write down your objective and then use decisive force to achieve your objectives. So I’m a little dismayed at what we’re up to here.

Right. Why must we keep learning the lesson of Vietnam over and over again?

Obama to jet off on two-week Martha’s Vineyard vacation despite launching airstrikes in Iraq and fresh battles in Gaza
Obama is scheduled to leave tomorrow and won’t return to Washington until August 17
After two days of meetings in D.C., Obama will return to Martha’s Vineyard to finish out his family vacation
Even as the military carried out air strikes in Iraq on Friday morning, Obama did not cancel the trip
Obama said Thursday the situation in Iraq was nearing ‘genocide’

He’s also doing a….SURPISE!!!!! fundraiser Monday at a fatcat donors’ mansion.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz Likes to Speak in Talking Points
As the above video shows, she tends to speak in rehearsed, repeated talking points about a “do-nothing Congress,” “quality, affordable health care,” and finding Republican actions stunning, shocking and offensive

GOP Senate Incumbents Complete Primary Season Sweep
Back in March, Mitch McConnell made a brash prediction about how Senate Republican incumbents would fare against Tea Party insurgents in the upcoming primary season. “I think we are going to crush them everywhere,” the minority leader told the New York Times.
The GOP senate showed they can take a page from the democrat playbook.Get multiple candidates in the republican primary to split the vote and take advantage of the huge differential in funding for an incumbent. When all else fails, get your fellow GOP elites to pony up a couple hundred grand to buy democrat votes to put down a conservative insurrection.

  7. Pete: “I had some lighthearted and offbeat news to post today, but….”

Looking forward to that, nonetheless; couldn’t we all use a good weekend Pete’s post? Not that the World will let up for the weekend, but we can pretend for a post’s worth.

Sometimes it would be nice to be able to look back through a list of past post titles. Sites with archives usually have those grouped by month. Can PoliNation have an archive page? The root cellar where all the old posts are preserved? Preserved… preserves… get it? 🙄 Oh, well.

    • The closest thing we have is the “Seasons Past” widget in the right sidebar, which lets you choose a year, month, and date so you can see what was posted that day. The category cloud in the left sidebar lets you search posts by topic. Not exactly what you’re describing, but I’m afraid I’m not savvy enough to create an archive with post titles. There’s probably a tutorial on WordPress that explains how to do it, and maybe someday when I have time on my hands I can figure it out. 🙂

      • I can’t believe I looked up and down the page for any “archive-ish” link I might have missed, yet utterly overlook the glaring “Seasons Past” calendar. [big v-8 forehead slap] The subtle and nearly impossible to discern I grasp readily; that which is staring me right in the face I miss completely.

Well, it’s something. I just looked at the first PoliNation post! (Dee?)
