My IT guy sent this to us to warn us to DO all the Windows Updates ASAP. This is not a hoax and it does not matter what version of Windows you’re using. This problem has been lurking since Windows 95!
If you do manual updates, don’t skip them. Do them as soon as you’re notified. This bug has been classed a 9.3 out of a possible 10 points on the vulnerability scale; it can be used by an attacker to remotely control your machine.
My machine did a massive update yesterday; I noticed in the “what did you just do?” box, there were a lot of “Security” notations on it. This article explains and says a couple more are coming soon.
