The 50th anniversary of the Shelby Cobra 427 marks the 30th anniversary of the first time Grunt asked Gruntessa for this one thing for Christmas, and the 30th anniversary of him giving her yet another chance. Her excuse this year is that she was too busy feeding and caring for the small army at the Grunt Ranch, roofing the out-buildings, slopping the pigs, making the clothes, serving at church, feeding the local poor, curing cancer and staying sexy for her man. I don’t know that she accomplished ALL those things, but since she did the first and last items admirably, I will forgive her one more time. But one of these days, dammit, I want a Cobra to watch lovingly as it deteriorates in the garage!
If you are also hoping for one of the 50 or so Cobras that will be manufactured this year, check out this article or contact Shelby American.

What you need is what I got after remarking that I wanted a CD player for Christmas and wasn’t it cool that I had kids with JOBS so I could look forward to a Christmas filled with blatant consumerism instead of Popsicle stick projects.
I got a box made of Popsicle sticks with a picture of a CD player glued to the front. There was also a clue inside about where the real CD player was, but I was laughing so hard, I really thought the joke was the whole present.
You, however, will be getting NOTHING but a Popsicle stick garage with a picture of a Shelby Cobra glued to cardboard that you can vroom vroom in and out to your heart’s content.

That pretty much sums it up! Good thing we can get by on love, huh?

There is a car buff here in Richmond who built a Shelby Cobra with his son. Don’t ask me how – it was about a year long project, I think.

Good point! They do sell kit cars, based on the Ford Mustang chassis. I think they go for about $40G last time I checked, not including the Mustang.

Oh, goodness. I knew it was expensive, but I had no idea it was that kind of expensive!

That’s nothing, though. A polished aluminum one like in the picture lists for almost $200,000. A restored original from the 70s can sell for 7 figures.
But after looking, I was wrong about the fiberglass kits. Looks like you can get a basic body kit for $10G and a complete kit, without paint, for $20G. That’s not really that bad at all. Lots of people are driving around mini-vans that cost $35G.
