Alabama’s Governor Robert Bentley signed the “Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act” (S.B. 363) yesterday. Kansas, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Mississippi have also banned the procedure and similar legislation is pending in Idaho, Louisiana, Missouri, and Nebraska.
Dismemberment abortions are formally known as Dilation and Evacuation (D & E) abortions. They account for 96% of all second-trimester abortions. During a D & E abortion, the abortionist reaches into the womb with cutting, gripping, and crushing tools and literally tears the unborn child limb-from-limb.
In the second trimester, unborn babies not only feel pain, but actually experience it more intensely than we do, because they have not yet developed the ability to dissociate.

Yesterday, Gov. Bentley also signed another law that would prevent abortion facilities from locating within 2,000 feet of a public school. Pro-aborts are expected to tie both laws up in court challenges as soon as possible.
