Bits & Bytes

Sorry, guys, but I’m not feeling too well today, so here is the no-frills stuff I gathered yesterday. I’d appreciate your prayers. Thanks! CtH

WAR ON TERROR: President Trump has designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. This is the first time America has labeled part of another government a terrorist organization. The move “recognizes the reality that Iran is not only a State Sponsor of Terrorism, but that the IRGC actively participates in, finances, and promotes terrorism as a tool of statecraft.”

TRUMP ECONOMY: Blue collar wages rise without increasing minimum wage law –

Friday’s employment report showed continued jobs gains and, lo and behold, a continued increase in wages … in those industries that employ the vast working class, such as health care, what’s known as leisure and hospitality and, of course, construction.” – Charles Gasparino, New York Post

FISA ABUSE INVESTIGATION: It’s underway – In testimony before the House Appropriations Committee on Tuesday morning, AG Bill Barr said, “The Office of the Inspector General has a pending investigation of the FISA process in the Russia investigation and I expect that that will be complete sometime in May or June I am told.”

DIRTY OBAMA: He weaponized the federal government – “In the closing months of Barack Obama’s presidency — at the height of a national election — high-level government officials with access to terrifying loads of clandestine information about American citizens began spying on domestic political opponents,” Charles Hurt writes in The Washington Times. The ensuing investigation “has done nothing but vindicate Mr. Trump and his valid concern that the Obama administration turned America’s clandestine services against domestic political opponents during an election. This is truly terrifying stuff.”

MEXICO: “APOLOGIZE:: Spain: “No.” – Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador recently demanded that the Spanish government apologize for the conquistadors. The Spanish government rejection was immediate and blunt.

From Leslie Eastman at Legal Insurrection: “A review of Mexican history, especially focused on the Aztec Empire and its practices of slavery and human sacrifices, would have many argue that the conquistadors were liberators. In fact, Spanish expedition leader Hernán Cortés found a number of willing native allies to help his small force capture the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlán.

I guess carving out hearts wasn’t the way to win ‘hearts and minds.’

Perhaps Mexicans are no longer learning Mexican history, the way that Americans are no longer effectively learning the history of the United States?”

DEMOCRAT: The Party of Death – For the 30th time, Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats blocked a vote on the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. They totally support the killing of fully developed babies for any or no reason. They just don’t want to go on record with a roll call vote, because the majority of Americans are right appalled by the idea.

USING GUNS FOR SELF DEFENSE: It’s a thing – Democrat Chicago has some of the strictest anti-gun laws in the country, so these thugs had every reason to believe this older gentleman would be easy prey. Thankfully, this guy was carrying. Unsurprisingly, Chicago also has one of the highest murder rates. The Democrat’s “answer” to that is … “We need more gun control laws.”

PUBLIC UNIONS: Ever since the June 2018 SCOTUS decision in Janus v. AFSCME barring government sector unions from charging non-members fees, nearly 210,000 of them. SEIU lost 94% of its fee payers. AFSCME lost 98%. It’s too soon to see what impact it’ll have on union membership overall.

UNPLANNED: After a surprisingly strong second week in theaters, the movie finished in 8th place at the box office. The New York Times quoted an abortionist stating that the movie’s depiction of abortion is inaccurate … except she’s never seen it.

According to her, “If you watch an ultrasound, certainly there is movement, but it’s not kicking its legs or recoiling,” adding that she thinks babies at 13 weeks can’t feel pain. “There is no neurological capability for awareness of danger — that part of the brain is simply not there yet.”

Maureen Condic, Ph.D. disagrees. And as a widely published scientist and Associate Professor of Neurobiology and Anatomy at the University of Utah, she’s got the credentials to back up her position.

“The neural circuitry responsible for the most primitive response to pain, the spinal reflex, is in place by 8 weeks of development. This is the earliest point at which the fetus experiences pain in any capacity.” After that point, “a fetus responds just as humans at later stages of development respond; by with withdrawing from the painful stimulus.”

NURSE ADOPTS ABANDONED BABY: During Baby Gisele’s three-months stay in the neonatal intensive care unit, her only visitor was Nurse Liz Smith. When the state took custody, Smith applied to be Gisele’s foster mother. After two years of fostering, the state and the birth parents finally allowed Nurse Smith to officially adopt the little girl.

MUSLIM CONVERTS AFTER MIRACULOUS HEALING: As a young woman, Casilda, the daughter of a 10th century Muslim leader in Toledo, Spain, became ill. Not trusting the local Arab doctors, she sought out the healing waters at the shrine of San Vicenzo in northern Spain. When she was cured, she renounced Islam, became a Christian, and lived out the rest of her long life of solitude and penance not far from the miraculous spring. Now known as St. Casilda of Toledo, her feast day is celebrated on April 9th.

GOSNELL: The team that made the Gosnell movie has been invited to screen it at the White House this Friday. I’m so excited for them!

  1. Chicago man chases off “teens” with gun. Looked at the report. He was a suburban cop on duty as a McD’s guard. Led those thugs out of the restaurant (didn’t say why) where they jumped him.

I noticed two things in the video:

First, the folks inside the restaurant hardly murmured — and certainly didn’t get involved — until the gun came out, then they were screaming like the gun was pointed at them. Pitiful.

Also, note that while the guard is pointing his gun seriously at first, he lets them go and lowers the gun. As is so often the case, actually firing the weapon is not required for a relatively peaceful resolution.
