TEXAS: Texas became the first state to opt out of receiving refugees in fiscal year 2020 under a new initiative that gives U.S. states and counties more autonomy in refugee resettlement. Governor Abbot noted that Texas’ resources are stretched thin due to having been forced to deal with a disproportionate number of both legal and illegal immigrants over the past ten years.
It’s unclear how Abbott’s decision will affect Texas’s Bexar County, which had already opted into the refugee program in November, according to a letter sent to Pompeo by County Judge Nelson Wolff.
MONTANA: Montana’s Glacier National Park has been replacing these signs, since ::oops:: all 29 of the glaciers remain stubbornly unmelted by climate change. The new signs say, “When they [the glaciers] will completely disappear depends on how and when we act. One thing is consistent: The glaciers in the park are shrinking.”
Sadly, the new signs are no more accurate than the old ones, since some of the glaciers in the park have expanded in the last decade. And the “how and when we act” is b.s. The glaciers have been retreating since 1820 — long before the 20th-century explosion in man-made CO2 emissions. This strongly suggests that glacial retreat is the result of natural causes — the end of the Little Ice Age — rather than of so-called “anthropogenic global warming.”

On Jan 9, 2018, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) posted a statement reiterating its continued and unwavering commitment to the ethical principle known as The Goldwater Rule.
“We at the APA call for an end to psychiatrists providing professional opinions in the media about public figures whom they have not examined, whether it be on cable news appearances, books, or in social media. Armchair psychiatry or the use of psychiatry as a political tool is the misuse of psychiatry and is unacceptable and unethical.”
Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman, former president for the American Psychiatric Association, called the book “tawdry, indulgent, fatuous tabloid psychiatry.”
