On Jan. 11, 2020, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) appeared on Fox, saying that House Intelligence Committee Democrats have still not released the transcript of U.S. intelligence community’s inspector general (ICIG) Michael Atkinson’s secret interview.
ICIG Atkinson’s secret interview transcript is the only one Democrats have withheld from the public.

Michael Atkinson was the person who reviewed the whistleblower’s hearsay complaint about Trump’s Ukraine phone call.
- After receiving the complaint, Atkinson removed a requirement that whistleblower complaints contain only first-hand information.
- This change allowed the “heard it from a dude who heard it from a dude” complaint to become the official excuse the Dems had been looking for to impeach President Trump.

Before being the ICIG, Atkinson worked for then-head of the National Security Division (NSD), John Carlin.
Atkinson was appointed to this position in July 2016, the same month that then-FBI Director James Comey officially opened a spying case against the Trump campaign.
As the Justice Department’s top national security official, Carlin worked for Obama’s Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
Before Obama appointed Carlin NSD chief, he was then-FBI Director Robert Mueller’s chief of staff.
As senior counsel to Carlin, Atkinson was directly involved in:
- The bogus FISA warrants the FBI filed repeatedly to spy on candidate and then President Trump.
- Giving 70 private contractors like Fusion GPS and CrowdStrike unrestricted access to our nation’s surveillance data (which the court ruled to be illegal).
- Approving surveillance of 30,055 American citizens during the 2016 Presidential Campaign (which the court ruled to be illegal).

When Carlin left his post, he was replaced by Mary McCord, who took over the Justice Department’s investigation into foreign meddling into the 2016 election and possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia. Michael Atkinson stayed on as her senior counsel.
- McCord was at the White House meeting that set off Mike Flynn’s multi-year legal nightmare.
- She signed some of the bogus FISA warrants.
McCord quit working for the Trump administration. She has said it was because she realized she couldn’t bring Trump down from the inside.
McCord is now the top outside attorney for House Democrats in key legal fights tied to impeachment.
