Another Sign of the End Times?

This year, we will celebrate Easter on March 31, 2024. This, of course, will be the end of our 40-day Lenten journey and the 3-day Triduum that commemorate Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday.

The following Sunday, April 7, we will celebrate the Feast of the Divine Mercy when Catholics have the unique opportunity to receive tremendous graces from Our Lord.

On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will plunge the United States into darkness.

In the Old Testament Book of Jonah, we hear how the sinful foreign city of Nineveh was warned that if the people did not repent, God would destroy them.

“Now Nineveh was an awesomely great city; it took three days to walk through it. Jonah began his journey through the city, and when he had gone only a single day’s walk announcing, “Forty days more and Nineveh shall be overthrown,” the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast and all of them, great and small, put on sackcloth.”

The forty days Jesus spent in the desert and the three days of His Passion, Death, and Resurrection are all foreshadowed in this story, as He foretold.

“Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.” He said to them in reply, “An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. Just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. At the judgment, the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and there is something greater than Jonah here.”

– Matthew 12:38-41

On June 15, 763 BC, ancient Nineveh experienced a solar eclipse. There are only 10 places in the world that are named “Nineveh.” Nine of them will be affected by the eclipse – i.e., all seven of the ones in the United States, plus the two in Canada. Below are times and degrees of totality at mid-eclipse for each location. Note: The times are all for the GMT-3 time zone. (GMT is also known as UTC.) I’ve ordered them from earliest to latest. (Read below for why the eclipse will move from west to east.)

  1. Nineveh, Texas (half-way between Dallas and Houston) – 99% at 13:42:07.
  2. Nineveh, Missouri (southwest of Springfield, IL*) – 96.6% @ 14:02:53.
  3. Nineveh, Indiana (south of Indianapolis) – 100% @ 15:05:43.
  4. Nineveh, Ohio (east of Indianapolis, IN) – 100% @ 15:08:39.
  5. Nineveh, Pennsylvania (northeast of Pittsburgh) – 98.9% @ 15:18:24.
  6. Nineveh, Virginia (west of Arlington) – 90.7% @ 15:19:00.
  7. Nineveh, New York (a little northeast of Binghamton) – 97.1% @ 15:24:08.
  8. Nineveh (Lunenberg), Nova Scotia (south end of the island) – 94.9% @ 16:36:52.
  9. Nineveh (Victoria), Nova Scotia (north end of the island) – 97.1% @ 16:40:15.

    Decided not to view the TSE since a few years ago, but was looking forward to them…; didn’t the annular / ring-of-fire. A more important Son deserves the attention.

    OAN did a poll, 55% chose not to see it.  But, I was taken aback by the half, more than half. It’s something to “put in the hopper.”

    When the moon and sun are at 100% obscuration, from different long and lat, the corona looks like an eye. It’s darkest right before 100%, at 99.3-99.4%. Fodder this last bit. But interesting enough the ancients noticed. Many of them were Christens, salt.
